OS Daily Wednesday 16th January 2013
Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 15th January 2013 - . This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning all,
Freezing here today. no more snow yet, but they are saying maybe Friday.
Off to work for me today, at least the heating is free there
, dinner tonight is a curry, with the last of the turkey / pork from Xmas (which I had frozen), its all made so just need to shove in the oven when i get home, and cook some rice.
Will need to do another wash tonight, and get it on the airer.
Jools I am sorry to hear you are having to jump through hoops re paperwork, I hope it gets sorted soon xxx
Have good days all xx

Morning :hello:
At 4.30am, mr tru's new inside-and-out thermometer gadget said it was -4.8°CI put the heating on early and sat on the sofa under a blanket til the house warmed up, it's lovely and toasty now
I crocheted a mini basket (just to see if I could, lol) and mr tru pinched it, said it'd make a perfect beer glass holder :rotfl: Now it's great that he's being encouraging, but really??!! :rotfl:
I've filled the spaces in the freezers by cooking things that needed using up before they went off. Lots of tubs of mince and onions, some baked potatoes (halved, scooped out, mashed with cheese and onion then refilled the jackets), beef and mushroom pie filling, and a few tubs of grated cheese.
I have a top which seems to grow wider each time it's washed, I sewed the sides up yesterday, it should stay tidy for a few more washesAlso re-covered a lampshade. My pile of things to mend is now very small

Morning everyone
Jools - sorry the legal paperwork is not straight-forward, big hugs x
Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x
Now gettting light, no new snow overnight, but misty and still very cold, roads seem to be ok.
DH up and off to work stupid early.
Dinner last night was sausages, mash, veg, yorkshires and onion gravy. Tonight will be stew and dumplings as I remembered to get the meat out to defrost.
Only working until lunchtime today - so will try to get some jobs done when I get in later, dirty wash basket is overflowing, so will put a load in before I go to work and dry that on the airer later.
Have a list started of other jobs that need doing too, so will make a start with those.
Have a great day everyone, stay safe and well x

Good Morning All
We have the same forcast as you Redruby, so no snow here at the mom, really feeling the cold though.
Haven't posted last couple of days as been out and about running errands, dropping DD off etc etc. Today she doesn't go to college so I don't need to go out till later. OH is at home as there was no work for him today. He needs to sort out his little van which he is selling - someone was actually coming for it last night but it had a completely flat battery which has caused the immobiliser to cut in so he needs to get some help with that
I will be having an office day, need to get all the books done and off to the accountant, I am a bit late with this which is not good
Anyway house needs tidying and ironing needs to be done which will probably be put off till tomorrow. Have some chicken legs for tonight which I think will marinade in Nando's sauce and have with vegetable rice and hm flatbreads.
(((hugs))) to everyone who needs one, have a great day all and keep warm!x0 -
Good morning everyone
Very cold here today but no snow .... yet
Lunch is left overs from last night's dinner of pulled pork with fried rice, peppers and some green chilli. Dinner is from the store cupboard so probably pasta with some sauce I make up at the time.
DH is exam marking for next couple of weeks so I can get on with more decluttering. I want someone to come in and wave a magic wand and I have a decluttered minimalist home but 27 years of clutter isn't going to vanish overnight.
Jools I hope you manage to get this sorted out quickly and painlessly. Love and hugs to you and your family.
Time to do some work, so will leave with well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them. Keep warm and safe. Morning all
(((((jools)))))
Today is my last day off work sick, I can't wait to go back, but no doubt I'll moan tomorrow about being back! :rotfl:. Not sure what to do today yet, may go out and explore somewhere. Or may just finish pottering round the house.
OS wise - if there is enough washing I will put WM on, need to sort packed lunch for tomorrow (have a million soups in freezer but also have salad to use up so may make pittas), tea will be freezer meal probably curry.
Have a good day all

Good morning to all.
Cold and misty here today. I've resisted the temptation to venture out to see if there's anything in the local Boots 75 percent sale. I don't need anything really, so I'll save my money.
Will be going out later, to see the lunch time showing of Les Mis, can't wait
Just sitting watching the coverage of the helicopter crash in Vauxhall. My husband is originally from nearby Battersea, so I know that area of London quite well.
Before we go out I'll get a bit of ironing done. Dinner tonight will not be old style at all. Oven chips, breaded corn beef cake and fried egg. Sometimes, I like a junk food meal!
Have a good dayEarly retired - 18th December 2014

Good morning redruby and all.
another sharp frost this morning here in the West Midlands. I am so glad i dont have to do the school run anymore. How the heck i didnt break my neck walking down the steep hill to school beats me. The walk back was interesting too.:(
Managed 5 hours sleep last night. Dogs wouldnt settle 'cause i couldnt settle. They kept knocking the door to be let out of the living room. I let them outside twice but they didnt want to go out they wanted me. I just couldnt cope with it as well as being sick as well.
Is it just me but do you find that normal illnesses are twice as bad when you get older? I keep saying, 'its just a cold for goodness sake!' but its affecting every bit of me. Good news is that hubby wont be home the weekend. I say good news as he wont have to suffer me coughing and spluttering in bed all weekend and moaning that i'm keeping him awake. He's doing a shut down in a medical treatment centre. The only time they can do this shut down is the weekends as the unit is fully functioning day and night throughout the week but not weekends and he needs to turn the power off.
Jobs for today:
[STRIKE]Vacuum upstairs[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]Vacuum downstairs[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]Vacuum stairs[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]Kitchen Floor[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]Trip to the Post Office. Didnt do it yesterday but ive asked my son to pop in after college this evening.[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]Wash and change the bedding[/STRIKE]
I want to look into child trust funds today for my daughters baby. I set up trust funds for my sons boys when they were born and invested a moderate amount into them when they were born. I need to think about doing the same for my daughters baby too. Theres no rush though, she is 12 weeks pregnant today.
Tea for today i think will be a sort of 'House special fried rice'. Ive got some odds and ends i want to use up out of the fridge.
Have a good day all and keep safe.:)This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
