Another time all unused bits go in the box, box in the loft, job done, lesson learned maybe?

Thats exactly what i do. I have boxes in the loft from VHS/DVD players etc, with unopended scart leads etc still in the boxes along with the item receipts.

even i have changed soundcards etc. from PCs and the ones i take out of the machines is placed in the box of the new one, sealed and placed in the loft.

Surely if they are sending a new one to you they could just take the plate from the new box? Or is this too logical?

im with the op, the cover plate is someting you would not keep if not needed, its like saying you must keep the original scart lead of a dvd player, these things get put in the box but you dont use them

True, lesson learned, play by their stupid game!

For starters I'll see what old IO panel I can get hold of to send back in place of mine :D

They are asking for the I/O panel as they are unique to that motherboard.

They aren't asking for the cables etc, just the I/O shield which is fair enough, as the manufacture wont have spares and like I say are unique to the board (the holes match the board features).

Finding a random one won't help, you'll need the original.

No its not, the I/O panel is unique, a SCART lead is a generic lead.

This scenario is like not returning the remote for a TV, the TV will work, but it won't work as intended.

The I/O panel is required to protect the motherboard in use.

They are likely to be able to fix the board issue and sell as reconditioned, the OP isn't likely to get a retail boxed product as a replacement it could indeed by a reconditioned model from someone else.

they need the I/O shields to keep a consistent supply chain to warranty claimants.

Yes, but even if the OP is sent a reconditioned model it will have the I/O shield in it.

now to me it would appear that if the OP doesnt have the/any I/O shield, then is he/she running the computer with no shield on it at all? if not, why not just take the shield off the computer and send it to them? when you get a new board, it will come with a shield anyway

Only if the person who sent it in to the manufacturer included it.

which is the point of ebuyer's refusal!

Exactly, therefore if they are always adamant that the I/O shield is included then they can remove the one from the box that is sent to the OP.
