that's to say: all the shares in the FTSE all-share index.
but of course the all-share index doesn't contain all the shares on the london stock market. it contains enough shares to cover about 98% of the market by capitalization.
so why do they call it the all-share index? ...0 -
It is a combination of the FTSE 100, FTSE 250 and the FTSE Small Cap Index. By weight about 80% of it is made up by FTSE 100 companies. It excludes micro cap shares (FTSE Fledgling constituents), the AIM, GDR's, PIB's, warrants, preference shares etc.0

Fair enough, admittedly I was being a little facetious in my response.0 -
If I own some VLS in both a HL S&S ISA and a SIPP will I get hit with the platform fee twice?0

I didn't follow this thread until quite late, but did skim through previous posts. My question is: Would this type of fund be right for a passive investor, who as they approach retirement, could move there funds into the low risk funds? So if you were 50 years old purchase the 80% fund, then at 55 move to the 60% fund, then at 60 use the 40% fund. Is that right?0

Basic question - with HL VLS can you make additional lump sum deposits or adjust the regular payment throughout the year? Guessing you can, it's just I havent seen that written anywhere expressly0
-
Yup, I've had no problems making lump sum deposits (though I don't have a regular payment)
I'd like to hit my ISA allowance next year purely using my S&S ISA - I have everything at the moment in the Vanguard 80% Equity fund... I'm thinking of adding everything to that (which would mean overall I have half of my money in a cash ISA, and half of my money in the S&S ISA) - is that a bad idea?
Thanks0 -
When you invest directly with Vanguard, does anyone know if you can sell and repurchase part of your holding ('Bed & Breakfast') to use up your Capital Gains Tax allowance?
Can't see anything about it in their literature.“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” --Upton Sinclair0 -
I always take the Inc option so that in bad times I still have the comfort of seeing the dividends :-)
Is that more tax efficient than taking it as a capital gain?“It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.” --Upton Sinclair0
