Decided to open a SIPP as well with Invesco Perpetual Income.
Thought I may as well start now even though I am keeping payments around the minimum of £50. Not being able to plan ahead, getting onto the property market etc i thought its best to keep to the minimum while I'm still young.
So I will now be contributing to a Cash ISA, S&S ISA and a SIPP.

That is great! well done on starting your SIPP opening!
Yes good time to start now, no time like the present and even at the minimum you have started and plenty of time and you are doing well with your cash and S&S ISA's filled
With property ahead you still have to balance your cash out for that and your long term so you are doing well taking these decisions.
I started to read Smarter Investing, excellent so far I am about 100 pages in now. So far everything is well explained and not jargon mind blowing or anything, really has made me think that starting this passive investing approach is the way to go, I am not interested in buying and selling stocks, this passive approach suits me and I am happy to add some spread and diversification here and there and put my contributions in and leave. So far I have enjoyed reading away at it.
With having started and getting into the frame of mind for it I was able to relatedto what I have been reading so far.

I found it heavy going later on but definitely a great book. I'm now 50% Vanguard Life Strategy. my thought was to go 65%/35% with VLS as my core but I back tested the idea and found 50/50 worked better, might not be the case longer term but for now it is working well. Happy to switch to 65% tracker (low fee) but enjoying investing too much at the moment :-)
I would recommend that Tim Hale book to all private investors.0 -

Can I ask what your portfolio looks like/contains?
Also, I want to read this book. Is it the orange cover, smarter investing smart decisions? £17.99 on IPAD.:j

Thanks for that, just under 300 pages to go I am sure it will get more heavy going indeedI will keep reading it through to the end, although I maybe will get lost at stages I am sure I will take a lot away from it, feel I have already which is good.
Interesting your at 50% of your portfolio with the VLS, I feel there is diversification options alright along with it. If you have been reading here I added the Asian Small Cap fund on, although it is niche fund, I feel there is good long term potential here, I am looking to add the Aberdeen Global Small cap fund on in April in the new tax year. I am still sure there is gaps that could be filled along with the VLS as the core.
Out of interest what side funds have you decided on at the moment?
I could not find any related Global Mid Cap funds on HL, just doing general looking as thought Small, Mid, Large Cap global coverage could be good, but seen UK and USA mid caps. Exploring what else is out there.
I reckon my next side fund is looking likely to be the Aberdeen Global Small cap.
I am enjoying the learning and looking into it all at the moment it is interesting. I will update a bit more as I get through Smarter Investing and I am expecting the more hard going stuff to come as I was surprised how well and easily explained the first parts have been, I certainly have understood about not trying to beat the market and on active managers in the book so far

Yep, that's the one. It's £17.99 for me to get it on my iPAD electronically. I have read a sample and it seems quite interesting. I think I will purchase it and join in with you!:j

That is the one, well worth getting on your IPAD, I read some yesterday and this morning and it has been very interesting so far, it certainly helps get the mind set. Go for it I would say :beer:0 -

Hope I'm not too late
I bought the Kindle edition of this last week, and have just got a refund from Amazon.
It might be different on the iPad as the screen is much bigger, but on the Kindle, I couldn't read any of the illustrative figures/tables, which was very frustrating. My eyesight isn't that bad but while its possible to increase the font size, it had no effect on the tables:(. I've just ordered the paperback version by snailmail.0 -

That's a shame, it's fine on iPAD, you can just double tap the tables and it will bring up a larger version and then still, you can zoom in.
Happy reading!:j
