Bridesmaids/Flower girl dresses?

I didn't really want bridesmaids/flowergirls and was happy with my choice but after speaking to my mum yesterday and she thinks that I will upset h2b's nieces if I don't have them as bridesmaids/ flowergirls.

The will be nearly 10 and 12 when we get married so need to get dresses that will suit them both. I don't want them too expensive either. Preferably the dress a blue colour rather than ivory.

Can anyone point me in the right direction

Does it have to be a bridesmaids dress as such or would something like this be ok?

I'm having a peacock theme so peacock blue if I can get it if not it will have to be navy/royal blue.

Sorry your wedding day and your decision as to whether you have flower girls or not, so they may be disappointed but so be it, did you ever promise they could or is it just assumed (or maybe something your mum wants).

I am sure there are many dresses around that would suit that age group from the likes of the big department stores or in bridal shops (watch for sales).
Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.

That's what I said but she said that at the end of the day they are going to be family and to keep the peace I might as well. I would be called all the names under the sun if I don't. I never promised them anything I've not even mentioned it to them. Although Sil2b has asked me who I'm having as bridesmaids.

These are my fiance's sisters kids not kids on my side of the family so it's not neccessarily something my mum wants. I think she thinks it will cause upset and doesn't want me having a argument for the sake of two dresses.

I didn't plan for them in the wedding budget do you think it would be fair if I asked their mum to go half's with me? I'm already slightly over budget by being ripped off :(

Have a look on ebay, I got some lovely second hand flowergirl dresses for less than what I would have paid for one new one and they look brand new.

When my daughter was a flowergirl for my friend I paid for her dress as she was keeping it, I didn't mind at all. You could say you would like them to be a flowergirl but due to circumstances you would need a little help with the cost of the dresses, we can afford £x so anything over that could you help with?

I've been/am in your boat as now have 3 extra little flowergirls.

I would be alittle niggled if I were asked to pay for my childs flowergirl dress for their uncles wedding but it depends how close your family is and their views, also depends how much money their mum has as that could be awkward. I would say best not to have them than ask for money but thats just my opinion.

I've made the decision to buy all the flower girls dresses and shoes from Monsoon in the sale working out at roughly £30 - £35 a child. Their mum is doing their hair as that doesnt cost them anything and saves me paying for it but i'm to much of a control freak to let them go out and get their own shoes as although they are little god knows what they would come back with (have very differnt taste)!

Totally agree with second hand and no one will know inless you tell them, it's differnt buying childrens than adults i've found it alot easier they just wear something that makes them feel like little princesses.
  • I'm more than happy not to have them if it was my choice I wouldn't have them. It would save me a lot of hassle finding dresses, shoes, hair things etc etc I've got enough to do without it.

We're talking about two girls that are football mad and are always wearing a football kit when I see them so being "little princesses" isn't going to work more like surly face little mares.

Thinking about it you've put me off the idea of having them at all. Thank you :)
