    Hi, DLA is paid every four weeks, so you'll get £168 every month, and then once a year, you'll have a payment at the beginning and the end of the month, so £336 in total. HTH

  • They are only proposed, not yet official, but you are calculating it wrong, it should be:

    21x2=42x52=2184÷12=£182 per month not £210

  • For as long as I can remember DLA has always been paid 4-weekly. Is it changing?

    Thanks, I saw Richie's reply about dividing the annual amount by 12, and thought something else was changing!

    HiYa SandraScarlett,

    As far as I'm aware that's the proper way to calc. Most people will say £42x4weeks=one month, as you can see its £28[-] per month difference on the O/P's calc.

    People over the years have argued it different ways, ie, is a month 31 or 28 days etc. The fact of the matter is there are 4 months in 2013 where there are 5 Fridays March / May / August and November.

    Most bureaucratic systems will reduce to a common denominator for example if :

    - council tax was calendar, and ;
    - rent is 4 weekly, and ;
    - wages are monthly, and ;
    - leccy bill is quarterly

    My way is easier because they all can be multiplied or reduced by the common denominator of 52 or 12 regardless of how many Fridays there are in a month. Take care !

    SandraScarlett you are 100% correct in post #2; DLA has ALWAYS been paid 4 weekly.

    Hi, yes I can see your reason for calculating the way you do, but the OP assumed there are 5 weeks in each month and was basing his expected income on that figure.

    It's all very confusing if you're not 100% comfortable with figures. One of my neighbours insisted she paid nearly £500 more in Council Tax and Water Rates than I do, even though we live in identical bungalows. As I explained, we pay these for 10 months every year, not 12 so she now feels quite rich! :j

    I get my DLA weekly, always have
    :j £2 coins = £2.00 :j
  • The easiest way to work out benefit totals for the year is to multiply it by 52 then either divide that by 13 to give the 4 weekly amount or 12 to give a monthly amount. Most people are paid DLA 4 weekly - but some have had the option to have it weekly. Not sure if the form I completed way back last year had that on it. Might have done. Memory not what it was. Therefore if OP will be getting £42 / week next year his yearly total = £2,184.00 - so 4 weekly = £168 and monthly would be £ 182 - but that cannot happen as DLA is either weekly or 4 weekly. Hope that makes sense.
