Have had one of these units since buying house 6 years ago. Replaced it 5 years ago as it broke due to our misuse as did not realise how careful you have to be with them.
The new unit worked for 4 years without issue as we only ever used it for the purpose it was designed for. No tooth floss, ear buds, hair etc. The old one had so much long hair and floss wound around the motor that it was impossible to clean it.
But then it started to overflow. Having tried to fix the old one I can pull these apart now. It is a filthy disgusting job but can be done just be prepared. Obviously turn the power off and stop the cistern from refilling. Plenty of towels, cover the floor, something like a paper cup to bale water out into lots of buckets. Loads of paper as you need to get rid of all the dirty water and other stuff you will find inside.
What I found with ours and living in a hard water area like London was loads of scale build up. The bottom was almost 2cm thick with scale and i had to chip it out with a screwdriver and hammer. All the pump and bits inside thick with scale.
Once I cleaned it and put it all back together then it was back to normal. I find these work better with only half a cistern full of water in the flush. That way there is not so much water in the unit at any time and it helps avoid overflows.
I really do not know how you descale these things and we tried cleaner before but it just frothed out through the sides and the overflow hole. If anyone knows an effective way to keep these free of scale would be interested to try it.0 -
Switch off power to the Saniflo. Pour solution 1/2litre white vinegar:6 litres water into the bowl. Leave for 2 hours/overnight. Re-connect power supply and flush.
Regular treatment will keep the limescale at bay. Make sure it is vinegar and not non-brewed condiment.0
