How to remove McAfee completely

Pink.

I have a new laptop and need to remove McAfee before installing a free antivirus, but I've read that it's not easy to remove.

I'm not even slightly techie, so please if you can help I'd appreciate it.

That should help you get rid of it.

I always......

1. Uninstall via the control panel, then
2. Run the McAfee removal tool from their website
3. Run a CCleaner registry clean ONLY for programs that are no longer installed.

Not sure why you say this. CCleaner seems to work well and do its job. What's the problem?

Because when I used the built-in registry cleaner, it broke Nero!

So you've used a registry cleaner once and it (possibly) caused an issue with one program. Hardly cause for such a sweeping statement as

Registry cleaners (including CCleaner) can cause more problems than they solve.

I've been using CCleaner for years without a single issue.

Nero on the other hand...
