    thanks for the reply........

although this is in the t&c's surely leaving a family with no money and allowing direct debits to be returned is not fair...especially without giving any notice

Does this mean the banks should only do this to people with out families?

No offence but the money you have spent on the credit card wasnt yours it was the banks, they loaned it to you on the condition you would pay some of it back each month, you havent kept up your side of the agreement.

As for the DD`s the bank doesnt pay you each month, they allow you to deposit money and for you to arrange for other companys to take money from your account, its not thier problem if you dont have enough money in that account if you have agreed with all these companys that they can claim there parts of your monthly wage.
If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

Its called the right of offset and they are allowed to do it as you have spent their money and are not sticking to your side of the agreement. Best thing to do is as already advised, open a new account to have wages paid to and move all your dd's and come to a seperate arrangement with halifax

It's probably a bit too late to move your account, your wages and DDs unless you're sure you lack the discipline to avoid making the same mistake in the future.

Talk to Halifax, grovel a bit (or even a lot) and see what arrangement they may come to. You've put yourself in their hands at the moment, so you need to win them over if at all possible.
