Barclays can be quite odd with their basic accounts. In the same week they declined me and my partner for basic accounts, Lloyds TSB accepted us for full accounts. Barclays loss!
However I concur with the other posters and suspect the OP may have a CIFAS marker which is making them run a mile. Not all CIFAS markers will be visible when checking your file. You can find out for certain if they hold any information on you by submitting a SAR to CIFAS0 -
Hi, regular reader but never contributed before and thought I'd chip in some info (apologies for bumping an oldish issue)
I work for the company in question and can safely advise the person you are dealing with is a bit slack. Like other institutions, internal codes are given for decisions made on various applications and they mean nothing to customers due to being jargon and should be avoided by staff to avoid confusion (perfectly exhibited here!).
On a side note, a full Visa Debit Card (Connect) is a risk product due to floor limits in larger shops and does require a credit search. The safer option is the Visa Electron (Connect Electronic) which you can use in the same way.
Give them a call/visit branch again and ask someone else what the application was actually for, what the decision was and what you options now are.
Just to cover my own back, this info is readily available from all retail staff member (technically...)
Hope this helps.0 -
