I have home service via Swalec I pay a DD every month included in this is a service of my boiler & heating every year. I have also got my wiring etc covered. my husband asked me on the weekend when was the last time we had a service as the pressure on the boiler was very low. It was only then that I realised it was due Oct last year. I always keep up with this as we had problems when we moved into our house.

imagine my shock today when I phoned Swalec today to be told all servicing was on hold for Jan & Feb and they were only keeping appointments open for emergencies. bGobsmacked wasn't the word. She didn't seem at all concerned when I said it was overdue and said it would not be done until March  I said the pressure was not good after complaining it was only then she booked an appointment.

I've never had a problem with them before and have used this home care frequently. When we moved I was advised to sign up by a friend lucky I did as when they came to do the initial assessment my gas fire was leaking carbon monoxide and gas into the house. The parts to resolve this was over £120 without labour so I consider this money
well spent. Due to this I'm quite paranoid and always make sure my yearly service is up to date.

Has anyone come across this not at all happy what if something had happened surely they cannot do this. My concern is that someone takes this at face value and something happens.

I actually think its acceptable for a company to keep the typically busiest periods of the year for boiler breakdowns and cold temperatures to keep them months free for call outs. I would consider that good forward planning. Imagine if they had booked your service for next week, then your area is hit by alot of breakdowns and they them contact you to inform you it's been cancelled after you've booked a day off work. I'm sure you wouldn't happy.

The only failure I can see from swalec here is that they could of informed you your service was due back in october

Topping up the pressure via the filling loop is a easy owner procedure. It takes just a few seconds and does not require an engineer! Just open the valve(s) and close when the correct pressure is reached. Do this with the boiler cold.
If you suffered a breakdown in winter, would you not expect them to prioritise it over an annual service-which you could have had done in summer?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
