House contents stored in garage.

Hi,
My niece is giving her flat up and wants to store her stuff in my garage, Does anyone know if I can get it insured as part of my house insurance?
My policy is due for renewal and Barclays (current insurer) won't cover for this. Any advice as to any company that will include it as part of my Building and contents policy, or any where that offers a policy she can buy
that covers this situation would be appreciated .

See if a local broker (not swinton) can help as this won't be something covered by an off the peg policy.

I wouldn't leave clothes or furniture in a cold, damp garage, they get damaged very quickly.

There is the danger of moths / mice ruining the items as well.

CO-OP cover outbuildings and they were by far the cheapest and best.

You say the Barclays won't cover outbuildings but I know for a fact they do, only today I was in Barclays sorting life assurance out and was given a quote for my house insurance that included our sheds and garage, I didn't accept the quote as they were nearly twice the price of the coop

The OP didn't say that. Its the ownership of the items that will be the issue. A broker will help.

Probably all off the peg policies will cover outbuildings.

But that is not the issue in this thread!
  • It is strange that your contents are not covered? Most insurance policies include outhouses and garages as part of the home. Check you policy (if you have read it already?).

All the OP has to say if anything happens is that the property in the garage belongs to her/him

Their contents probably will be covered. Its the items belonging to someone else that are the issue here.

OP, I recommend that you disregard this advice.
