I'm sure they are probably just laughing about you contacting Tesco regarding an offer in Sainsburys.

We do get customers arguing and being aggressive that we cannot refund a TESCO chicken as its gone mouldy in SAINSBURYS!

There is a complete difference between the two - length of company name, colleagues' uniform colours, colour of carrier bags etc.

Its called deviance, and all the supermarkets are equally as guilty, I get enjoyment pointing it out to less savvy people , who in turn tell others......... 2 fingers to supermarkets IMO

I tell customers look for the individual tickets, not the barkers. Sainsburys - the orange tab to the left of the ticket, Tesco - yellow ticket etc.
  • It happened to me a while back with tinned tuna in Sainsbury's. Enormous advertising card saying 4 pack John West tuna half price. I picked up a pack in brine and paid full price for it! On complaining at cs I was told the offer only applied to tuna in spring water! The assistant took me to the offending sign and, sure enough, in minute lettering at the bottom it said applies to spring water only! Yet it was directly in front of the tins in brine! Nothing goes in my basket/trolley these days without me double checking the correct price. They got me once but, by heck, they won't do it again!

That used to really annoy me too! I worked on TU clothing and would sometimes get a call to go to customer services to give the ok on a refund to find a babygro from George and an irate customer wondering why they couldn't return the item. Err we're Sainsburys, that's from Asda?

Is it not either the colleagues fault who put it out and probably put the wrong sign out to accompany it or in some cases I know of customers putting things where they shouldn't be (this really annoys me!) although usually it is just one product out of place so it is obvious.
  • Supermarket pricing is DESIGNED to confused. It makes me mad. I always ask and double check at the till. The staff are often confused as well.

I really wish there were no 'special' offers just simple reasonable pricing.

Yes from my experience its the staff who are putting the stock out, most of the employees are quite good but there are some who dont look at the sel and just stick the stock anywhere on the shelf which in turn can end up with with customers thinking they got an offer but it turns out they haven't due to the stock in the place on the shelf.

Its also annoying for those who pick the orders for groceries online as you have to hunt the item.

Oops. I did email Sainsburys. :rotfl:

I checked and double checked before I put them in my basket. The shelf tickets for everything on that shelf said 3 for£10. They were all also on a shelf in another part of the store, in the same order with the same price tickets. The difference was that the turkey didn't have a sticker on it. Definitely trying to catch out the customers in this case.

    Just had a reply.

"Thanks for your email. I’m sorry you were unable to take advantage of the 3 for £10 on selected meat and fish offer we have in store. I understand your disappointment as the deal didn’t trigger at our checkouts and they were displayed inappropriately on our shelves.

We want all our customers to enjoy everything they buy from our store. We have offers and promotions available which we hope our customers will find helpful. We also try to ensure these offers are advertised correctly so that our customers are not confused. It seems on this occasion, this wasn’t the case. "

They sent me a link to the website so I could see what is in the offer and have asked which store I bought them at and have added 2000 (£10 worth) of Nectar points to my Nectar card. They also want the barcodes of the products I bought. Have to go digging in the recycle bin to find them.

Sometimes it is deliberate - if the items on offer have all gone staff will "backfill" with something similar in appearance (not price) or move items along the shelf to hide the gap.

God forbid customers should see gaps on the shelves or realise that the heavily promoted "special offers" disappeared within the first day of the fortnight long offer, not to be replaced.

If it's not there, remove the signs!
