If £29 a month "used to cover in fine until last year" the massive increase is certainly not down to price increases. Prices have perhaps gone up 30-40% since last year.(and now being reduced)

You have either increased your consumption by a huge amount or you are mistaken about debit balances not being carried forward.

The price increase has certainly aided to this but our consumption is less as been moneysaving:rolleyes: I'm definately not mistaken about this bill including debt as total owed is more then this bill....
Just had interesting chat with neighbour while bringing bins in. Her bill has trebled this quarter from £60 to £180 (1bed also)she is with N-power though. When she made a phone call to company she was told there is a problem in the area with gas being sophined and they had to keep reading meters to try to find where it was happening (3 times in 2 weeks our meters have been read). Readings on bills are correct.
I'm going to do some asking around later with other neighbours as this could be reason for rises...

We too have massive bills from Power gen think i must be powering the street. £586 in debt 2 adults mid terrace work full time bill came through in june for one utility.

Looked on u switch at time and whilst i could save loads on DD's currently pay £107 to clear debt and usage, unit costs with evilgen;) were cheapest so thought i would be in a false economy. What do people think will it be false economy in long run or best option help seriously broke now and have young babe can't afford to keep heating off?

    I am totally lost now.

If a £29 DD covered your bills last year, approx £40 will cover them now.

    However you say:
    1. Consumption has gone down.

    2. The (meter?) readings on bills are correct.

    3. There is no debit balance carried forward.

    4. Your bills have nearly tripled

That doesn't add up! One of those statements is wrong.

What were your readings last year and this year?

Yep no 3 is wrong the £260 bill we just had did not include the debit carried over that is added on top of the £260 making it £300 odd. Sry if I'm confusing you.:o
What I'm doing now is taking a meter reading every other day and so far in 1week I've used 3 units of gas. The last bill was 172units in 3 months so if it stays at using 3 per week that is roughly 40units a quarter!!!! Last quarter was 132 more so this is why I'm checking it to see if there is a sudden leap on the meter.....
