hi there
can anyone help me? we have been paying £69 a month for a while with powergen for gas and elec. 2 of us only live in a moderate detached 3 bed house, and we are not excessive in our useage.
last quarter, oct-dec, i realised our useage was up a bit and we were in debit - i was not worried (and p/gen don't seem to be) as i thought it would come down and level out.
well, we have just received our latest quarterly bill (and the meters have been read on both occasions) and it is for approx. £400! £286 for gas and £115 for elec!
anyone got any thoughts? thanks in advance

If you still have the previous years statements have a look and compare the usage, remember to take any new items that you use into consideration along with prices rises. The best things in life are for FREE!!!If you like what you see and find this info useful, please use the thanks button. thank you.
yes, i will have a good look tomorrow - i keep all my bills. i was just a little shocked. surely, costs haven't gone up that much? have they?
i will check the figures (and the meters) and then maybe give them a ring.
thing is also, i have turned the CH off for the last month as it has been so warm - makes things look even worse.....0 -

Your like me as i keep all my bills.
Prices have risen how many times in the last year you may just be getting the full effect of your coldest months.
I would compare and give them a ring, see when the last price rise was and see if you received anything saying so.
I have had the heating off also as its been warm. The best things in life are for FREE!!!If you like what you see and find this info useful, please use the thanks button. It costs nothing and means so much.0 -
By "and the meters have been read on both occasions" do you mean at the beginning and end of the billing period? Or both the Gas meter and the Electricity meter?
Obviously if your start meter reading was (under)estimated that could be the reason.
For 3 months(Dec-Mar?) £286 and £115 is not that high IMO.0 -
yes i have just had a similar shock, we only moved to powergen 4 months ago and the bill doubled from last year 25% i put down to general price increases 5% using more energy and 20% for powergen being more expensive than any one else, i have noe cancelled and are moving suppliers"Save the cheerleader - Save the world"0

firstly you have to remember gas and electrric billa are always the highest during the last few months of each year, because they tend to be the coldest, although hundreds of pounds does seem step!!
maybe you should try moving to another company in the long run, i dont think powergen are one of the cheapest!!Trinidad - The hottest place to go0 -
Check the past threads, as I have posted a similar thread. There are two of us in a modest three bed semi, both mostly out in the day time. I only have the heating on evening and morning. I do not use a tumble dryer, use energy saving bulbs etc and got a whopping bill from them this quarter. I pay £62 a month, but am now in arrears. This forum seems to lots of threads started by people who are shocked by their Powergen bill.Frugal Living Challenge 2024 CROFT Crafting: £151.99/250, R (visiting daughter): £165/£500 Outside activities: £214/244 (Allotment), Outside 2 (Mud monsters et al) £152 F(Family visits): £93/400 Tummy (food budget): Aiming to use full budget monthly of £2000

i have now checked all my bills for the last year or so. unfortunately everything has been calculated correctly - i think it's a combination of the high prices and powergen starting off our payments too low (it was £40)!
am going to try and pay off the bill somehow (?) and then move probably to npower - according to energysave. the prices per kwh do look a lot better.
also, i think OH will have to stop leaving lights on and stuff on standby - that's not gas though........:rolleyes:0 -
npower the same, 2 years ago i was paying £49 a month for both and in credit, now they want £134, seriously in arrears
you can ask for reduction of arrears payments but they usually like it paid off within a yearOne day I might be more organised...........
