Thanks, sillygoose wrote: »They do... but not sure if they would work with any old PIR fitting, the problem being CFL lamps don't get on with the electronic switch used in some designs. Ones that switch with a relay (usually make an audible click when triggered) should be fine. Best to ask Megaman via their site.

Here is a PIR fitting complete with 36W CFL lamp/driver, claims a 300w equivalent output but thats no doubt optimistic. Cheap though!

Edit just seen this is actually very similar to the one posted above by Tim but twice the price - scrub that one!
The one at farnell looks like it would work out cheapest!0 -
Didnt want to create a a new thread, but im on a money saving spree.
I have halogen spot lights in kitchen/hall way, bathroom, and both main bedrooms.
In the dining room and office there is a 4 way halogen spotlight unit.
What are the cheaper alternatives to these?
Are LEDs worth while and affordable?
Thanks0 -

Having looked at something like that, how can i be sure they would fit the existing units without sticking out?0 -
On Amazon there are several LED lights which would fit your unit and give equivalent to 150W of light. THey're £10-20. If 150W is sufficient, try those first.0

Thanks, Will give those a go!0

The fluorescent GU10 lamps are larger than the halogen lamps and can protrude out of the fitting. Although more expensive, LED GU10 lamps are better than the fluorescent ones, full brightness instantly, brighter and better colour light (make sure to get warm white type).
These are good, and no bigger than a halogen lamp :

Just an update..
I purchased this - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00925VI4Q/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00 -
VERY impressed to be honest, straight fit, gives off enough light (less than 500w bulb but still enough to be able to see), and the electricity meter doesnt have a fit every time its on
Think i might start replacing the GU10s around the house with LED's now!0 -
What is the light output in lumens though ???
These bulbs that I buy give a massive 430 lumens of light.......
and have a 12 month guarantee
