Ive currently got a 500w halogen that im looking to replace, as it eats electric for breakfast
Weve recently had some LED floodlights put up in the garage at work and im quite impressed with them.
Can anyone recommend any?
Must have a PIR.
Cheers

I buy all my LED bulbs from here......

You might be able to just replace the 500w bulb rather than replace the whloe thing ??0 -
Thanks,
Just looked at that site, they only have 5w, so wouldnt be bright enough!0 -
From the link supplied by mervyn11 there a section for floodlights
http://www.simplyled.co.uk/LED-Floodlights_B25T58.aspx
equivilant 400watt (60watts) for 99 quid or 159 for 500 watt with this one only using 80watts0 -
To get anywhere near the brightness of a 500W halogen with an LED will be very expensive.
A fluorescent floodlight will save money and can be bright enough.0 -

They dont have PIR's by the looks?
And didnt realise they were so expensive
@TBT any ideas on good flouresent ones?0 -
LED PIR floodlights unless you buy top end (circa £80 +) are hopeless. i sell lighting and i tried one on my rear garage wall that had 45 LED's in it - useless, compared to a conventional 500 or 400w halogen strip light. they're usually only on for a few minutes at a time so the running costs are not high once you factor in the low purchase price of around £15.0

This 32W fluorescent floodlight is about as bright as a 150W halgoen but is cheap and has a PIR.

This 2 x 26W fluorescent would be around the brightness of a 300W halogen, but would have to fit a separate PIR sensor.

Or a 70W metal halide lamp gives a bright white light, brighter than 500W halogen, but takes a few minutes to warm up and is not best suited to frequent switching.

Thanks, i think the 2 x 26 looks best, i could use the PIR from the existing light.TimBuckTeeth wrote: »This 32W fluorescent floodlight is about as bright as a 150W halgoen but is cheap and has a PIR.

Does it give off the same colour of light as a halaogen does?
Also how many KwH should the 500W light use?
It seems to me like its used far too much, around 300 units in 3 months! (its not on all the time, only when people\animals walk past, and people wouldnt walk past often!)0 -
Just a thought, do they do bulbs which can go in the existing unit ive got?0

They do... but not sure if they would work with any old PIR fitting, the problem being CFL lamps don't get on with the electronic switch used in some designs. Ones that switch with a relay (usually make an audible click when triggered) should be fine. Best to ask Megaman via their site.

Here is a PIR fitting complete with 36W CFL lamp/driver, claims a 300w equivalent output but thats no doubt optimistic. Cheap though!

Edit just seen this is actually very similar to the one posted above by Tim but twice the price - scrub that one!0
