Plusnet fibre optic broadband

Has anyone had any experience with fibre optic broadband from Plusnet? I have just had it connected and have been pretty underwhelmed by the speed so far. I know you can never expect to get the advertised speed but I am only getting about 10MB when they advertise "up to 59MB"

What does BT say you will get?howardphillis wrote: »Has anyone had any experience with fibre optic broadband from Plusnet? How far away is your street cabinet?
Are you using a high speed computer to measure the speed?
Are you using a wired connection rather than wireless?
What site are you measuring the speed at? I get a wide variety of results depending on the site used. You could use http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/ ...Using that site I get 25Mbps and on http://www.speedtest.net/ I get 27Mbps and on http://www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk/ I get 15Mbps.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

BT openworld should tell you what speed you should get at least they did for me and I also checked online I was given 62.2Mbps for 78Mbps but I get around 65-69Mbps depending on time and server (speedtest) the speed will vary depending on quality of your line and distance to cabinet though0

Have you raised a query with them? It couldn't hurt, just in case it is a problem they can fix from their end.0

Check with BT speedtester http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/ -after first run you will need to use "further diagnostics" option to find out your profile;this may till be set for ADSL/ADSL2; if this is showing a much higher value than your thruput then look at your "current speed" setting on Pusnet site https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed when logged in. If this is low,you need to contact Plusnet CS to get it reset. If both these values for profile appear correct (ie much higher than the 10Mb thruput) then you mostly likely have line issues which may or may not be due to a fault.0 -
Speedtests should be done with the minimum computer configuration, to ensure that no programs/drivers are causing delays, boot into windows with safemode and network. Use a network cable and run the test, this way you will get a more accurate reading.0

I am no expert, but is the speed not supposed to be lower for some time after the first connection?howardphillis wrote: »...I have just had it connected and have been pretty underwhelmed by the speed so far....0 -
I had months of trouble with my Broadband, finally switching to Infinity when it became available. (BT/OR said up to 65mbs - I get 74
)
One thing that I did learn is that practically all the speed testers are wildly inaccurate - when used on ADSL lines; on fibre they are even worse.
The best fibre one (the only consistent one anyway !) is:
http://www.speedtester.bt.com/beta/speedtest-remote.jsp
OR: there are plenty of sites who will download files of varying sizes and you can do a bit of basic maths to work out your down load speeds.0 -
It depends on your distance to the cabinet.
At my old house, the cables were all underground, i was around 400m from the cabinet and got full 80/20 speeds.
Ive moved somewhere else now, and the cables are all on poles, and around 600-700m from the cabinet, i now get 60/10!0
