Virgin do not sell equipment, they lease it.
They remain the owner of the equipment at all times.
Therefore you have to return it or allow them to collect it if you cease to be a customer.
The story you've heard apply to Sky.0 -
If you fail to return it you will be charged for the cost.
But if you cancel your contract the box will be of little use anyway. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I was suprised to hear from my mother that Virgin are physically coming to pick up their stuff from her house. Told her to tie them down to a 2 hour band or equipment will be in garden.0

Which she could counterclaim with compensation for taking time off etc if they turn up outside the agreed time.
However as you point out how considerate I am I shall organise it to go in the "Paper Collection" wheelie bin if outwith the timeband.
That is where their courier service leave equipment. Fairs fair and all that :A0 -
The benefit of you not owning the equipment after 12 months is that if there is a fault, they are responsible for fixing or replacing it whereas with Sky, after 12 months it is out of their hands and you are responsible for fixing/replacing it.0

Since you obviously have some axe to grind with Virgin for some reason, I won't respond to any more of your remarks.0 -

Well I wouldn't know about that, I've had a few discussions with Sky customers over their broken equipment!
Personally, I would much rather save my threats to get that better deal once the contract finishes.0
