Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 14th January 2013 - . This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

We have snow in Reading, only a little, I need to leave early this morning as I promised DGS some cake for his lunchbox, I just hope I can get through, like I said, there isn't much snow, but there is a steep single track road/bridge out of here & some !!!! usually abandons their car & blocks the road. The phones will be busy as the world & his wife will be phoning to see if school is open, they can't be bothered to listen to the local radio. Lucky hubby is still in bed, he has today off as he's working Saturday.
    Time I got ready.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning all,

remind me next time i take cold/flu medication to check the ingredients first. I took two tablets before i went to bed and couldnt understand why my heart was racing and i couldnt sleep. A quick read of the packet told me it contained caffeine. I am sensitive to large doses of caffeine.:D I think ive had about 3 hours sleep all night.... Still, it gave me the oportunity to do a few quiet jobs in the house before the dogs got me up.

Its snowed overnight. Theres about an inch underfoot. Its not too bad really though i dont envy my bin men who collect today.

Dogs are up and awake. Heating isnt on yet so ive put on the gas fire to take the chill off the living room. Hubby has gone to work, he's pretty hardy. He's got his winter tyres on the car and is pretty used to driving in bad weather. He was a bit suprised to see i was up before he was though.:D

    Jobs for today:

    [STRIKE]Laundry[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]Vacuuming upstairs[/STRIKE]
    Dust upstairs
    [STRIKE]Vacuum stairs[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]Vacuum downstairs[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]Kitchen floor[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]Dust downstairs[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]Bathroom[/STRIKE]

I havent thought about tea yet. Ive thought about everything else, just not tea.

Have a good day all and if your driving, drive carefully.

Had a bad night with my knees, couldn't sleep and have been up since 4am
Had snow during the night and it has settled, looks like it has just started again.
Was nice to see the zoo on Countryfile last night, if anyone wants to see what Dunstable Downs looks like.

DH was surprised to find me up and to have a cup of tea waiting for him. He said to go back to bed if I can, but I don't think I will sleep.
No plans for today, so I am winging it, have to sort the menu planner out for the week, apart from that not much that I can do.
Off to take a couple of tramadol and maybe I will grab a few hours.

    Morning everyone :D

About 1 cm of snow here in west Mids so nothing wildly exciting. Good job really as H is driving to Bath again today.
Kids off to school as normal so I have dog to walk, food shop to get and then housework. Livin' the dream eh?!
Sat and studied meal plan so have written list for food shop. Out of a few main items so don't expect this to be an uber frugal one.

Not loads of OS aside from the usual fare, BM needs to go on, cooking from scratch etc.

Kids are having pasta for tea, I might make myself a carbonara :D have some ham which needs using up.

BB hope your knees feel better soon xxx

Jools well done on visiting ICU, very brave of you xxxx

Hugs and spoons all round xxx

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Now gettting light, we have a light covering of snow here but much heavier snowfall forecast for later today - will have to wait and see.

DH up and off to work stupid early.

Had a brilliant weekend, had a chilled afternoon Friday after arriving on site then spent Saturday browsing shops in Oxford St, then after DH had come out of his meeting we went to get an early dinner prior to going to see We will rock you, all was very enjoyable. We came home at our leisure yesterday. Now back to work for me today, have been using up some annual leave so today is going to be hard - but possibly won't be too bad due to the snow, tends to make quite a lot of people stay at home.

Dinner tonight will be fish, chips/jacket potato and beans/veg - not quite sure how it's going to work but should have a chap coming from Bathroom company to measure up and give me some prices. Will have to wait and see what happens with the weather this afternoon, may need to re-arrange.

Have a great day everyone, stay safe and well x

  • Good morning everyone :)

Last night's dinner of flat iron steak was delicious, that butcher gets top marks and I will be back for more. Pulled pork on rolls tonight with HM coleslaw, HM soup and bread for lunch.

No snow at home, just lots of rain but plenty of snow at work. I just hope it doesn't freeze.

Must start work now so will leave well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs to those who need or just want them. Keep warm and safe and have a super day :)
