galaxy note lock screen pin not accepted!!!

I have the 1st galaxy note and had a pattern lock on the lock screen, but my kids had seen me input the pattern and figured it out and I thought a pin would be easier so they couldnt just get into my phone.

so i went to change it, and upon going to the pin bit it asked me to enter a pin, then confirm pin which i did and it went through ok. Or so i thought......since then I havent been able to get past the pin lock on the lock screen!!!!!! everytime i enter the number it says 'sorry try again' and after so many attempts makes me wait 30 seconds or so before trying again.

Its really frustrating me that it asked me to confirm the pin and set it up but is now saying incorrect, i just cant figure it out!! the pattern one had an option if you forgot it, but this doesnt!!

Ive googled and found instructions for doing a factory reset by pressing buttons rather than through settings, but even then it asked me for a code.

Has anyone experienced this before??? And do i contact orange who i had the phone from or samsung as the makers for help on this tomorrow???

OMG i could sooooo kiss you right now lol, i was googling the wrong things in my panic, all sorted now thanks to google play, gmail and screen lock bypass pro-cost £2.60 but worth every penny to rid me of the sick feeling ive had all night!!!!
