    Mortgage-free Glee!
Wow you have done so well. I am glad to hear that you did take a break and spent some time just enjoying yourself though :)
I started with a mortgage of £151,000 in November 2009 and really hated owing so much. I have been really obsessed with it over the last 3 and a half years and I am now sitting around the £64,000 mark. I have decided that for the sake of my sanity and the enjoyment of my family, that I will be cutting right back on my overpayments at the end of this year. Right now we are just existing and it's time we started to living again. You never know what's round the corner.
    Mortgage Free in 3-T2 : Started at £151,000 Nov. 2009 Mortgage Free Oct 1st 2015 :)
  • Hey impressive stuff there spidy. Congrats:T

I needed the break for sure but can now almost see the light at the end of the tunnel. So going to stick at it

Totally see where your coming from and easing up a bit to enjoy your family

I just got a dog. A reasonably cheap means of entertainment and healthy to boot:rotfl:

Allready a quarter of the way through this challenge and momentum building up nicely:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T

Now that my loan is cleared I have increased my monthly mortgage capital payments to £2k

I think 2k is about as much as I can realistically achieve. Already cut expenses to the bone

Running out of savings ideas to be honest. I allow myself a set amount each month for living which seems to work well.If I use less petrol ( now cycle to work)I spend it down the pub guilt free:)

Not much more to go at however Ive pocketed a bonus of £2.1k this month so an additional 2k overpayment on the mortgage and more importantly £100 on beer :)

So a handsome 4k payment this month takes a nice little chunk off the outstanding balance

New stretch target now added.I originally dreamed of mortgage free by 40. Well thats going to be impossible, but if I can clear the outstanding balance by October 14 then I will be mortgage free at 40 ( just lol)

    Freedom here I come.

Don't count your chickens before they hatch!

I was a little optimistic with my bonus and have a few 1 off expences to cover so my overpayment for June is down £500. ( 3.5k )

    Additional expenses

    Spay dog - £220
Repair broken french door window ( lawn mower boo boo ) -£200
Speeding fine -£60 - whoops :eek:37 mph at 04:00hrs deserted clear road

Oh well what a rubbish way to spend £500 :(

Figures updated to reflect the above expenditure
  • You've done a great job - can't wait to be mortgage free myself. Makes all of today's sacrifices worth it
Mortgage March 2013: [STRIKE]£55,956 [/STRIKE]£38,500 (aim to pay off by 2020)
    Overpay aim 2013: £9,974/ £5,000 :T:T:T
    Overpay aim 2014: £3,800/£12,000
    Kitchen and curtain fund: €1,000 / €4,000
    Emergency fund: €1,000 / €2,000
  • Not much to report this month

My budget whilst tight is achievable and the best one I've devised yet, I'm sticking to it like glue and quite enjoy ticking everything off as its paid

In fact in a 5 day period I'm paid, all DD's and standing orders go out then back to a zero balance so it's quite a slick setup and keeps me from temptation

However as its so sunny I've sold a number small value items on eBay to fund a few extra beers
