No trouble at all my friend, most of it is in this thread already. The whole point of my input is that existing Blue Badge holders only need to supply one extra bit of information more than they did last year.

If you are concerned tell me your location [not personal details, just your local authority] and I'll look at their - this years requirements for you, and make sure they are not over zealous with their requirements. I'll also give you links so that when your time comes to renew you'll know where to do it and what to have ready in advance so that you can avoid problems or delays.

Thank YOU I am well know at my local one stop center, but what i am finding is that every district seems to have its own criteria when a person searches the web.which is causing confusion and worry. which is compounded by people on benefits not renewing passports or driving licences in these difficult times.

I am sure a face to face BB renewal will be faily straightforward

I used to be a trade union legal advisor and my phone still seems to ring with people asking for advice on all sorts of benefit issues.

Many Thanks Again for your reply and offer of help.

Save the arguments and just go to https://www.gov.uk/apply-blue-badge and check it out yourself, simples. Everything you need to do is listed there.
  • Sadly the advice given by my Local Authorities One call service was incorrect to me also I had a very heated debate down there today as I was narked when i read the thread that I saw about how the authorities can check the council tax register (which i am on) and save me taking down other id as they had already refused to accept as out of date (last time the advisor told me it had to within 3 months ) today 6 months.

So I challenged them and said why if they can do this (the council tax check) why wasnt it offered and therefore saving me another journey down there with other ID that may or may not be accepted. ..

I did not get a renewal form I phoned up for a renewal form after getting a letter saying my badge is due to expire and instead of sending a form the call centre said i could re apply for my new badge over the phone ...which is where the problems started.

Today when I queried about the Id
They said because I had said during the phone call I would take my driving licence and a bill in ..even though I agreed to this because I thought from the call centre's explanation that the Id I had would suffice, (ie my c tax letter from the same council ) then they couldn't do the council tax check ... Complete bonkers !!!!

I then politely pointed out that due to their requirement that requests for council tax checks in writing format only and only at the beginning of the process not half way through the renewal process as i was ***may be breaching the Equality Act **** they did not like that one bit !!!!!!

Anyway after I broke down in tears they have agreed to accept my driving licence (which i gave them last time) and the new letter i had to get t'other day for them from the Dwp after my 1st wasted journey to parking services (which luckily came quick) as I only kept my award letter from 2010 and have nowt else ) and with that my payment and my photo I finally am getting processed.

...i think she was frightened to tell me i would need to come back to collect the flipping thing when it was ready !!!!after I had ahem strongly explained I was aggrieved at having to make multiple journeys when severly ill and her giving conflicting info to her colleague (who was sheepishly sat beside her) and the one call council call centre giving rubbish info and the invite renewal letter being poorly worded / basically told them they needs retraining and explained i was concerned their council procedure may be illegal ....

She did point out that OH can pick it up if he takes Id for me and him in .... Dont know if thats policy or if they dont want me crying in their offices again chuckle !!!!

  • I hope when i renew at my one stop shop they except my BB as photo evidence.
I no longer drive (my wife who is a nurse does) and dont have passport.

I'M sure i had to give my NI number when i last renewed...Maybe i'm wrong.

    HiYa nogginthenog,

Yeh you might have done, my local authority has demanded sight of a driving licence [original not copy] for HRMDLA for years. Other authorities have not, some as posters here will testify that other local authorities have not even required a photograph etc. There was a lot of leeway in the past because the Blue Badge was a lot to do with the 'Local authorities traffic orders (exemptions for disabled persons) (England) regulations 2000 (SI 2000/683)' This is the reason most authorities in the past had different application and enforcement rules. Its also why enforcement was almost impossible leading to Blue Badge fraud becoming rife, and the good honourable members of the disabled society being vilified and called frauds for what the few bad eggs did.

The questions and the form for the without further assessment group

Now to fast forward to this month. There should be little or no difference between any local authority on the questions they ask for the [without further assessment] HRMDLA recipients.

The questions and the form for the without further assessment group under the imminent PIP

These are not yet as far as I'm aware decided, but will be in line with the old DLAHRM passporting arrangements. These were then and should continue to be the award letter outlining your DLA / PIP at a particular rate. They were / are considering three options :

    - 1-no legislative link between eligibility for a Blue Badge and eligibility to personal independence paymen

    - 2-establishing a legislative link between Blue Badge eligibility and the enhanced mobility component of personal independence payment

    - 3-establishing a legislative link between Blue Badge eligibility and those who score eight points or more within the "moving around" activity within personal independence payment. This assesses a person's physical ability to get around.

The Government's preferred option is option 3 as it would mean that eligibility for a Blue Badge would be most similar to the current scheme and the potential impacts of this option are minimal. We will, however, consider this in light of views and comments sent in as part of the consultation. The Government are also asking for other suggestions for other practical and sustainable solutions.

The questions and the form for the with further assessment group

They are, under the conDEMS 'localism' bill allowed, different questions criteria for the [with further assessment] non-HRMDLA group. Interpretation and its application will therefore vary between different authorities. Most have agreed to the 'best practice review' application, so the total numbers and degree of variance will be tiny compared to the old scheme - but some 'little hitlers' will no doubt try to go OTT.

Now it's funny you should say that, cos DH never received a letter. When we went to renew the BB and raised this, I was told they have stopped sending letters as a cost cutting exercise. I wonder if councils are autonamous and can decide whether to do this or not - I would have thought the same rules would have applied nationwide.

Anyway, today he received a letter, saying he had to peel off a teeny weeny blue wheelchair sticker (about the size of a capital letter on this font), from the back of the letter and attach it to the new badge .............. but there was no new badge. ;)

When I phoned to query this, the lady I spoke to said she had received loads of similar calls, and apparently, the badges, which come from elsewhere, were arriving late, due to staff shortages. Hmmm!

    xx
  • To Sandra Scarlett - from what the lady at Parking Sevices said all blue badges now regardless of issuing authority now get made up in the same place which ould be why yours is delayed and also why she said my renewal letter was sent 6 weeks before my badge expired. She says they are sent away and it takes a while.
