They may be small parts, but the rear reflector is an MOT fail* so the fact it's missing makes the car (technically) unroadworthy. By selling it in that condition the dealer has committed a criminal offence. If the car happened to have a new MOT issued by them before sale then it's also a matter for VOSA.

It's unlikely you'll get anyone to actually act on it but get in touch, give them a date to have it sorted by, as promised, unless they want it reported.

*RFR is 1.5.1(a) "A reflector missing, insecure, obviously incorrectly positioned or does not face to the rear"

But the light still illuminates without its reflector does it not?

Doesn't matter. the reflectors themselves are obligatory equipment on any car. Curiously, it's probably the only requirement that was backdated when it was introduced, so even very early cars that didn't have them as new must have them now.

The only ones that don't need them are ones that are only used during daylight hours, in which case they MUST have no front or rear position lamps (sidelights) fitted either.

Yes, all dogs bark - But this is the dog who got his promised bone.

Of course large dealerships operate their Depts as seperate Cost/Profit centres
with inter billing, but where do you suppose the Sales floor are going to get these promised parts from, other than the Parts Dept.

What a fool. As an ex Ford Sales Manager if someone tried this tactic I would NOT pay for the parts. However if the person came in and spoke to me I would have sorted out the issue. Sales / Parts / Service will all have their own accounts and only the sales manager will be able authorise costs.
