  • Quick update, straight after I posted above I followed a different guide through the GG site and it was slightly different to the one I had previously followed. Saved new settings and data is now working!

Today however, was the first time in a long while, I've asked in my head, whether it's worth being with GG when I have to constantly reset the internet settings to GiffGaff's to connect to the internet without WiFi.

Did you actually save the settings as a new APN? I had previously just updated the ones already in there and think that's where I was going wrong, although will have to give it a few days now and see how it goes. I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 and I followed this guide:

I just got my PAC number from Giffgaff. I've been with them since May and been pretty happy but had too many texts going missing lately. Just not reliable enough for me. Going to try Ovivo, hopefully their free allowance will be just enough for me.
  • I left Giffgaff six months ago because I found myself in many places with just a 2G signal. This isn't a Giffgaff problem, it's down to lack of investment in the network by O2. If you aren't bothered about this, or are sticking to town/city centres then you'll be fine.
  • I was with giffgaff for nearly two years on my iPhone 4. I have noticed that the network has been really struggling with data activity for the last 6 months-or-so.

If the data connectivity is important to you, I would suggest getting a free SIM and checking the 3G signal where you would mainly use your smartphone.

I have now switched to 'Three' - much better for data connectivity and cheaper too, but struggles on signal strength when indoors.
