Xmas Saver!
Sorry I don't know if this is the right section to ask this question.

I have listed a iPhone 5 & have just got a email asking how much do I want if they pick it up & pay cash.

Now I know this could be very dodgy, so how do I look up this persons ebay name so I can have a look at there rating?

Thank You

  • Did they email you direct? I thought they had to message via the eBay system.

Oh I am having a thick day today doh!

    Yes of course they did

This person has been on Ebay since Nov last year, brought three things two used laptops & a iphone 5 new for a lot more than I have set the bidding to start from.

This person does live about a hour away, so could come & pay cash for it.

100% good feed back on the three buys, say's fast payment

What do you think?, too risky?

  • Technically no riskier than advertising via Gumtree, Craigslist, the paper, etc etc.

Are they wanting you to complete sale outside of ebay or sell via ebay and pay cash on collection? The first is against some ebay Ts and Cs but that never seems to stop anyone lol.

Paying cash on collection is perfectly allowed on ebay so long as the sale is done via ebay (ie you will pay the final value fee etc).

    http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/pay/methods.html#pickup

The bit that's against the rules is withdrawing the auction to sell to a bidder privately outside of ebay as it classes as fee avoidance.

So long as you are happy/confident for someone to turn up (have someone else home if worried) and count the cash there and then etc, then its not really too much of a risk.

PS - how do you win all this stuff?

    Thank You,

I just thought what about send a message & ask the people he has brought from.

And one has just come back as no they did not sell it to him as he seemed dodgy, they relisted it & sold it to someone else.

So I think that is my answer then!

    Thank's For Your Help

Sorry but a buyers feedback rating means nothing. Sellers cannot leave negative feedback for buyers so all buyers have 100% positive feedback no matter how bad they are.

Do you know what, that was actually a bit brainy for me!

Perhaps that's why I have a headache LOL

I gave bad feed back to someone once on Ebay as the item was not sent & they did not respond to my messages to pay me back so opened a paypal dispute & got the money back. I left negative feed back & it's still there, just checked & it say's this seller is no longer a ebay member.
