£1000 is not going to get one of you far, let alone two. Can you afford to go? How much will kennels cost?

it's just where i'd get the extra £££ from, i don't have alot and would paying off where-ever i borrowed it from for the next few years - which is another thing that's making me dither. it's not really money saving :(

Don't tell Martin Lewis, but sometimes there's more to life than moneysaving!

Could you get a credit card with a long 0% period and then shuffle the balance around to keep it at 0% till its paid off?

I'm in debt from buying my home, and I won't pay that off till I'm nearly retired.

I'm in debt from going to uni, and I'll probably never pay all of that back.

Some things are worth going into a little bit of cheap debt for. If it was just a holiday I'd say save till you can afford it, but as its a wedding there's a time issue.

it's in Darwin, NT. and yes, on top of the £1000 I'd probably be looking at another £1200 minimum for the rest of the airfare, and £1000 minimum spending - so around £3500 total (including the £1000) I think ?

Hopefully the kennels wouldn't be an issue as one of DD's friends works directly opposite our house, and would, i'm pretty sure, be happy to house and dog sit
  • right I've just had a quick search and for 3 weeks in june from Heathrow to Darwin, you can get economy for £833 per adult.....although premium ecomony is £1800

Oh yes, go with your daughter

I've been back to work for two years since having my spinal fusion op which was succesful , we always said that as soon I was better and working we would go back to the mountain in perissa in santorini , where my husband proposed to me in 2004 .
We saved up and went without a few things , and in June last year we climbed that mountain again and it was SOOO worth it , and even more special seeing I could have been in a wheelchair .
Just saying dont let things stop you . I'm glad we didn't and have memories of watching the sunrise too .

I won't go on holiday if it means getting into debt, the thought of paying it off for the next x years would somewhat sour the experience. I guess the question is, how much can you save before you go?
  • Would you be staying with your friend? Does she know money is a bit tight?

I would agree with you normally but

    a) this is not just a holiday - its the chance to share a special occasion with a life long friend

    b) Op's daughter is 18 - more likely she'll be off to Uni soon and then the time for that special daughter mum holiday will never arrive
