Buying a new car and trading in something of higher value

If you're going to get a better deal why not push for extras?
But remember the garage are in it to make a gain so may not be in the mood to be adding extras.0 -
Thanks everyone!
Will see what I can manage x0 -
Is it unreasonable to ask for £1000 cash back as part of this deal?
Going from a Vauxhall Antara to Kia Rio (highest spec)
Thanks x
Usually you expect to be offered around £12,500 - £13,000 trade in for your current one.
You may find you have to find £1000 rather than the other way round when the plate changes.0 -
Best of luck, I do not know of any Trader worth his salt who would entertain a swap. Buyers, even those with access to very expensive trade info. seem to confuse retail value for trade values and the costs of refurbing any car to retail standards.0

the only exception is if the trader knows the customers vehicle is in high demand and easily saleable where as the one the customer wants to swap for is a sitting duck and hard to get rid of.0

Just economics and psychology, they're in business to make a profit not to provide a public service - it's not worth their time to do a straight swap. Secondly - they know that you want their car (they're indifferent to your car) so they'll use that to their advantage and ask you to pay a bit of cash as part of the deal too.londonTiger wrote: »the only exception is if the trader knows the customers vehicle is in high demand and easily saleable where as the one the customer wants to swap for is a sitting duck and hard to get rid of.
Are we back pedaling now?0 -
Why do you want to trade?
IMHO, the Vauxhall Antara is a far better car.
You have already taken a substantial hit on the Vauxhall and the Kia will depreciate a chunk as soon as you drive it off the forecourt."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Hi all,
Update: managed to get £500 cash back and a full size 17" alloy spare instead of the foam kit. Full tank of fuel and mats all provided too. Changed my Antara to this due to saving £150 month on fuel alone and for sticking over 12,000 miles on it since last June I've lost less than £1000 on what I paid for it x
Not fussed about depreciation as soon as I drive it, plan to keep it a while!0 -
If you bought the Antara new, you must have got it at a very good price. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
