Buying a new car and trading in something of higher value
Hi all,
I'm trading in my current car worth £15,500 for a car which has an on the road price of £15,320.
The on the road price includes metallic paint etc etc and I want to drive this down a bit and get some cash back.
Is it unreasonable to ask for £1000 cash back as part of this deal?
Going from a Vauxhall Antara to Kia Rio (highest spec)
Thanks x

You can ask what you like but whether they will do it is another thing. Who has valued your car? The dealer my have other ideas about its value.0

Hi,
Got the valuation from Whatcar website. Showroom said they would do a straight swap but I'm a bargain hunter and hoping to get a little better if anyone thinks is possible?
Thanks x0 -
Glass's Guide is the one the trade uses and it tends to value differently from Whatcar or Parkers.
I would have expected a straight swap as has been offered. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
You can only ask.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

Remember next month your car will be worth less.0

Not that much..... least my Brother who is in the trade and get's Glass's say's so!
In the end its what they will give you anyway..... knowing a book value just gives you bargaining power ....0 -

A few years ago I had both a Whatcar and Parkers for the same month, neither had identical prices, sometimes a 5% difference. But as the title said they are a "guide".If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
when the value of the cars is essentially the same - the dealer will always want some money to make the deal.
Just economics and psychology, they're in business to make a profit not to provide a public service - it's not worth their time to do a straight swap. Secondly - they know that you want their car (they're indifferent to your car) so they'll use that to their advantage and ask you to pay a bit of cash as part of the deal too.0 -
