I am getting huge variations in my download speeds over wireless.
Have noticed this morning that even putting my laptop on the coffee table behind a few dvd's has a
dramatic effect on the speed. Thats when i thought i would try wired. However this appears to make
no difference at all so how do i know whether my laptops (X2) are using wired or wireless.
I have walked around the house with both laptops and get similar results with both.
Around 28 Mbps max and in the worst area around 13 Mbps.
Both laptops have wireless n cards in them are are around 1 year old (I5 and I7).
Biggest question is how do i force wired as i do not believe they are using wired when connected with the
ethernet cable and how do i know what they are using?.

Wireless is always going to be slow depnding on what wireless. Configuration. You have, n is pretty good but you need to decide what. Do you need. If you are or have decives on such as wi fi on mobiles phones, laptops and other gadets then your signal will drop
To see the connection type cmd on your run box in start then type ipconfig/all it will show your all connection available"MSE Money saving challenges..8/12/13 3,500 saved so far :j" p.s if i been helpfully please leave me a thank you but seek official advice at all times from a pro0 -
what speed is your connection to the net (found by logging into the router)
how are you finding out these speeds?
if you plug in an ethernet cable, it should take over. if you want to make certain, disable the wireless card by Fn key/switch or in device manager!!
