WiFi greyed out on iPhone 4s

I have an iPhone 4s from o2. I got it in May 2012 on a 2-year contract.
The Wi-Fi button in Settings is greyed out today.
Would it be better contacting o2 or going direct to Apple by making an appointment at an Apple store (the nearest is rather a long way from where I live).
I really do not want to be without a phone while any repairs are done.
Advice, please!

Anecdotal evidence suggests that iOS6 stops wi-fi working. Apparently Apple have said nothing about this known fault, especially if or when a fix is due.
Did you upgrade to iOS6 recently?0 -
I did upgrade but not very recently - the problem only occurred today.0

I read on another forum that putting the phone in the freezer for 10-15 minutes would work. I felt very sceptical but tried it - and it worked!
I don't suppose it's a long-term solution so I would still like advice about o2/Apple in my original question.0 -

Where have you seen this evidence? I have an iPod touch which has iOS6 and the wi-fi is ok now but I would prefer to avoid this problem. Is it to do with upgrades from iOS5?0 -
