Is this tablet any good?

bar jelly bean seems similar spec to my archos cobalt 80 and mines very quick using the net and probably as fast as my tab 2.
Only issue I find with the cheaper tablets are there are normally some minor niggles which sometimes need work arounds but theses are normally not a problems.
The tablet in the review tend to get reviews and I know the 7 inch has been popular on hotukdeals.
The seller also tends to get good feed back.
I know people rave about the nexus but can't see the benefit of paying nearly £200 more it compared to the one in the link.0 -

Wrong. If you prefer these ones, does this make you a "lesser known brands" slave? (Text removed by MSE Forum Team)
Anyway, back to subject:
1. Main problem with such tablets is screen. Usually low resolution, low brightness, limited viewing angles and poor colors (especially dark palette).
2. More often than not front is not covered with reinforced glass and extra layers like anti reflection or one allowing better touch and slide feel. These are often overlooked things that make a lot of difference with later everyday friendliness of use. Not to mention lifetime expectancy.
3. Battery capacity. Usually much lower resulting in few hours of work rather than all day.
4. Quality assurance. Hardly any. Same "make" tablets from 2 different shipments can have ridiculous differences in build quality such as: screen ripples, random behavior while charging, unstable software (producers often haven't got money or time to fully test and debug operating system so stability results are dramatic, things switch on and off without warnings), screen quality (dead pixels, random touch response times etc).
If a buyer is not bothered with any of these potential faults then there is no problem. But imo it is better to know before rather than afterwards.0 -

No foundation in fact I am afraid.0 -
In my opinion there are only two viable options:
Apple fans ipad mini
Android fans Asus Nexus 7
I purchased the latter since already have an ipad and wow the tablet is a beauty and only paid £159 for the 16gb version
All others, in my opinion, are inferior to these two. Personally I would always spend a bit extra to get the build quality and ease of use
Hope this helps0 -

what are you basing this on? I own a archos cobalt which cost £50 and a tab 2 which costs 300 for the 10.1 and an iPad.
Unless someone is a bit of a tablet geek I can't see benefit of the extra premiums of these tablets you mention.
For browsing watching videos Facebook etc the type of tablet linked by the OP is fine.0 -

Wrong again.
The fact of the matter is that I review computers and electronic equipment as my extra job for a big tech website. Within last year I had tested tens of tablets, including various "lesser known brands": natpcs, goclevers, larks, a1cs, saneis, m009s, ainols, mantas, apollos you name it, and others no one ever heard of. So I know what I am talking about. Your recommendation on the other hand is based on, I quote "Looks absolutely fine generally". there is plenty more of good, well built tablets. Acer, Lenovo, Archos, Samsung, Motorola etc And these days they don't cost a fortune0 -
In order to defuse the situation a little, let me just say this: this conversation shouldn't be about brands and their effectiveness, we should be discussing how best to get the OP a tablet that does the job at a price that they can afford. After all, this is a money saving website.
In this case, a no-name brand is going to be the best option - regardless of your thoughts on the subject.
So, in this case: if you don't like this tablet suggest why specifically rather than "OmG it'S not BRANDED!111" and then we can look for something else for the OP and help them out.0 -
Thank goodness for the ignore list feature. Trolls :silenced:
Op says she is on a budget which presume means the one listed is pretty much at the upper limit which is useful to know, or is there more in the kitty?
It would be useful for the op to say what uses they anticipate for the tablet to see if this or others maybe are better suited.0 -

My homescreen(s) have just a background image, a clock and the icons for my apps with english names under each..
I have the clock and icons but also some Chinese writing which didn't change to English0 -

There's a whole host of options.
One thing to bear in mind - wherever you buy one from, make sure it is a UK company/ships from UK. If you need to return it for any reason then you want to be returning to the UK not China.0
