Well he is a nationalist, why would anybody think it strange that he doesn't want NI to benefit while it isn't part of his goal of a united Ireland.

It has to be said: we get the politicians we vote for.

So why on earth do we keep voting for these lunatics?

I think it's because the "average" person cares more about the size of their child benefit and working tax credits than the real issues. They'll vote for whoever says they’ll maintain the status quo.

This development would have decimated Belfast and Lisburn city centres. For people like me with cars it would have been handy, public transport is virtually non existent.

At this present moment in time and with the prevailing economic conditions I think the establishment of a John Lewis store would only be detrimental to other businesses. Maybe I'm short sighted but that's my opinion.

Attwood appears to think he is infallible. John Lewis stuck it out through the thick and thin of what passes as normal in Northern Ireland, waiting something like 9 years whilst everyone who could get a court to listen, took out judicial reviews and did all in their power to stop this development coming to Lisburn. Meanwhile those with vested interests in bringing JL to Belfast threw their toys out of the pram in a tantrum. Then in the lead up to a public inquiry, Attwood changes the rules in such a way that it is almost inevitable that JL will decide they have had enough at least as far as Lisburn is concerned. Now (as they see it) the way is open for the sulkers (Belfast) to make a push to get the new store in there. So JL if you do not come to Belfast then forget about NI at all.

I understand that Belfast is haemmoraging shops all too quickly, but that is because we are in a recession, and by the way Belfast is not alone in losing businesses. It is happening all over NI.

This "Minister" will surely go down in the history books for throwing away a major investment, much needed employment etc. IN THE MIDST OF A RECESSION. Well done Alex. If JL even hint at going south, you can be sure they will not have to wait 9 years for planning approval. They will probably fast-track it and thank their lucky stars for their good fortune.
