Economy 7 Tarrif

Good Evening,
I recently moved into a new property, the house has an economy 7 meter installed, on this meter the night readings do not work (that dial hasnt moved since in moved in a few months back)
When i signed with BG who were the company already supplying the property, they put me on their economy 7 tarrif, which obviously costs a fortune during the day.
I have now moved to EDF who i believe dont have me on an economy 7 tarrif ( i have just emailed them to clarify)

My question is, do i have some come back on BG?
Ie can i claim for the extra it has cost me vs their standard tarrif?
Since i dont have the benefits of eco 7?

Thanks

    - essentially they don't know if you use paraffin lamps for light and heat your home by inviting politicians round to talk
    - when you move in you are on a 'deemed' tariff, that is whatever the previous tariff was
    - you keep it or change it, you keep your supplier or change it
    - if you don't change the tariff or the supplier you'll stay that way forever

Sorry Edward its your responsibility, they can't possibly know what happens the other side of their meter.

If you have an E7 meter, the default will be to put you on an E7 tariff, unless you request otherwise. How can BG know how you heat your house?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Thats my point, they put you on the e7 tarrif.

The night dials should move if any electric is used in the set 7 hours. mine doesnt, so for the month or 2 ive been with BG ive been paying over the odds for day time electric (24 hours) instead of paying over the odds for 17 hours!

So it sounds as though the time switch/tele switch is not operating to change the meter over to the night units. I would suggest you report it to BG as a meter fault

    - in the winter may thousands don't move their night units because they work 'away'
    - or are second homes unused in the winter and use neither night nor indeed day units
    - the supplier doesn't monitor this, why would they ? its nothing to do with them
    - everyone on this island should read their meter before they even move in to a new dwelling

If you don't have a stored heat & water system, you should have been on the phone before the first hour of occupancy.

    - do you have night store heaters ?
    - is your water mysteriously boiling hot every morning ?
    - do you have gas ?
    - how do you heat your home and water ?

Best of luck edwardw. Your original question was """come back on BG?""" .. .. my answer would be try asking them, you never know !

Either it is broken or not wired in, that means you may have been getting your night rate electricity for free?

It's worth checking the wiring setup before complaining to BG.

Did you check the day rate readings during the E7 hours, to see if they changed?

    Sorry for the late replies....

We dont have stored water etc.
    Its all gas central heating.

As per the day units moving at night, im not sure, nor sure what the e7 hours are.

How would i check how its wired?

Sound like the E7 part of the meter is redundant and has not been used since storage heaters were removed. Why has EDF put you on a single rate tariff when you appear to have a dual rate meter, exactly how did that come about? What happens if you run your washing machine or tumble dryer in the middle of the night, do either of the meters move?

They havent put me on a single rate tarrif, thats what i want them to do!

And AFAIK, the day meter moves.

Sounds like the E7 night rate meter is not wired up at all, it probably should have been changed for a single rate meter when the central heating was installed. *Some* suppliers will add together the two readings to put you on a single rate tariff but others will insist you have the meter changed which costs.

You can ask BG and EON to bill you differently but I doubt you have any 'come back' - they were right to put you on a two rate tariff with a two rate meter, with the benefit of hindsight you should have read the meters more often.
