Hi everyone

I purchased a Nikon DSLR on the 3rd of January in cash £449.00 the guy was quite pushy for me to buy the X display model so I went ahead with the purchase, I have only just got round to opening the box and play with the camera and after a few minutes noticed a fault with the display it just goes funny like someone is pressing on the screen and the ink is flowing round.

I called my local Jessops this afternoon to explain the situation and the guy said “I don’t give a F**k mate I might not even have a job ring this number 01132894422” in shock I said ok and proceed to call this number not knowing who it was.

A lady answered and I explained the situation she said Jessops can’t do any refunds or replacements as they are in administration now. She has taken my details I explained I would like a refund as I was sold a faulty item and she said they might not be able to do anything, I wouldn’t want the camera repairing as who knows what’s happened to it it could have been dropped or anything causing other damage.

She said someone will send me a letter in a few weeks this is horrible news to me as I have photo-shoots to do, I am really stuck as I am now scared that I will have a bad camera and also won’t be able to get a refund and also if I send it off to repair what else will go wrong with it ??

So frustrated with myself and really stuck on what to doplease can anyone help me its taken me ages to save this money up

I would suspect you are stuck! Try contacting the manufacturer of the camera and explain the situation. Thats probably your best bet!

  • When you say a fault with the display do you mean the LCD screen when you are reviewing your photos?

If you do then just double check you aren't in highlight mode. If you are, then any areas of the photo not properly exposed do this sort of flashing thing does look a bit odd. Sort of reminds me of what it looks like when someone presses on an LCD screen, that's why I mention it. Confused me first time I saw it!

It's easy to tell, just look at the bottom left of the screen and it will say "highlights" above the model number of your camera. If it does, just press the button above the "ok" button on the left to get back to normal review mode.

Apologies if you know what you're doing and I'm stating the blindingly obvious and being no help at all!

I agree with goater78 though, try Nikon, they may well help you.

You'll have to rely on the standard manufacturer's warranty. Whatever you do, don't part with it to Jessops, as it may never come back again.
You wouldn't have been entitled to a refund anyway -the supplier can repair, refund or exchange at their discretion. Nikon will do the same, i.e. replace the LCD if faulty.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • If you don't get any luck from Nikon (for example if they haven't been paid) then you're stuffed.

They don't have to repair or refund while in admin.

All shops closed as of tonight, looks like the whole firm is being closed down

All stock to be sent back to suppliers?? But I've heard people have sent in cameras to be repaired, which do not belong to jessops, what happens to people's property? They going to sell that too??

The number you called is the Jessops Help Line, it appears as if it will remain in operation according to this page, but it's doubtful if there's much help that they can actually offer in the current circumstances.

OP, you will need to contact Nikon, I would imagine that the camera is covered by their warranty unless they are able to decline a claim because they haven't been paid by Jessops. Good luck, hopefully they will help, but this is a lesson on why paying with cash is a bad move.
  • Ok thanks for the input. The camera screen for reviewing pics is defo faulty. What your talking about Is called histogram. I will see what happens and post back
