Error 1015 on i-phone, HELP!!

Hi, have used these threads a couple of times now and found some info very useful (thanks guys).
My current predicament is with my daughters i-phone, she had a contract phone (blackberry) but in her infinate wisdom decided to swap it with her mates i-phone 3g. Many arguments later she still has the i-phone, have managed to sort the contract side of it out but now the phone won't work.
It keeps freezing on the apple logo and when trying to restore the phone via i-tunes eventually comes up with 'error 1015'. Have done a bit of digging and looks the phone has been jailbroken in the past.
I'm just wondering if anyone out there has some sort of step by step guide i can follow to restore the phone to factory settings, not bothered about losing data, contacts etc. Have looked else where on the internet but every solution seems very complicated (creating costom files etc).
All i want is to restore the phone - can anyone help or at least offer some good advice please?

ps, no restoring to original status but you can make it work , just never update the firmware via itunes

Thanks for that, will try as soon as i get chance. Just on another note, Browntoa says 'no restoring to original status', does this mean that with the phone being jailbroken in the past that my daughter won't be able to connect it to i-tunes anymore? Or is there any way of 'undoing' the jailbreak?

UPDATE: Many thanks to 'Browntoa'. one i-phone working great. The links were really good, the written one especially. A bit of time playing on laptop = one happy daughter.
