That sounds like a good plan. I'll try it and get back to you.

I calculated the cost of breakfast if you don't book a room with it included and its £600 for each room (two in each room).

You eat so much, it does cover you for lunch, however and it's five star food ;)

Just looked the best rate guarantee terms and it lists the hotels you can do it with but doesn't mention ritz carlton ones :(

Just rung them and it doesn't cover the ritz hotels :(
  • If you do end up staying at the JW Marriott, email Customer Care a week or so before your stay and ask for a 'Gold Challenge'. If successful, they will give you immediate Gold Elite status for 3 months which you will keep for 12 months if you stay 12 nights within that 3 month period. One of the perks of Gold status is access to the Executive Lounge which includes Continental breakfast or Continental breakfast in the restaurant if there is no lounge. If you think you may stay another 4 nights in that 3 month period, ask for a Platinum Challenge instead and you will get an arrival gift at check in, 50% extra points and the same benefits as Gold. You would need to stay 18 nights in the 3 month spell.

You could try it for the J W Marriott though ;)

  • Actually, scrap the post I made above about the Gold or Platinum challenge as the JW is classed as a resort and the free breakfast does not apply.

Not now I know the ritz is as cheap as it is. Much more intimate. Thanks for the gold challenge tip even though you took it away with the other hand :p

To be fair, you could ask for the Gold challenge anyway as your 14 nights will satisfy the criteria and give you free brekkie or lounge access if you stay in any other Marriotts whilst your status is Gold

I've got status with Marriott, but finding it increasingly difficult to book competitive rates directly with them.

Just booked a Marriott in DC and actually got the best rate from Avios.com (and earning Avios in the process). It was cheaper than Expedia and hotels.com.

    Not sure why.

  • Just in case it is of interest, I test-booked the JW Marriott Grande Lakes from 02/09/2013 - 16/09/2013 through Marriott.com for $219/$249 per night. I submitted a claim under the Look No Further guarantee using clever-hotels.com as the cheaper comparison rate and the claim was approved. The rate was reduced to $84 per night. The reservation is fully cancellable.
