PLEASE help get me a good deal at Marriott

For the last three annual holidays, my wife and I have been seduced by the lovely Ritz Carlton at Grande Lakes in Orlando, Florida. We normally go with Virgin Holidays and compared to most other hotels, its not really all that more expensive. It probably works out at £130/night and we came back in September just gone with that rate.

I've tried to book again for this September and the hotel has been put in a "contract dispute" with Virgin so they say they can't offer it and can't give me a date when it will become available (if at all).

So, I go back to an email sent to me early last year where I was getting their best room rate by emailing the hotal direct in Florida and they confirmed a price of $223+12.5% tax. I didn't actually go for it as Virgin Holidays worked out a little cheaper when you consider virgin V room thrown in etc.

I emailed them again a few weeks ago asking them for their best room rate and was shocked at $459+12.5% :( I have tried so many different things to get a better rate. Im even bringing my parents this year so we are having 2 x rooms each for 14 nights. They don't seem to see that as any more ammo to get a better rate and they are simply quoting their website prices. On that rate, the bill at the end of our stays for two rooms would be around $15,000

I have given up with the Ritz as I have emailed so many times and they won't budge. So, I am now gunning for the Hotel next door which is the JW Marriott and seeing as you can use the Ritz pool area and spa, it will be a great second choice (if a little busier).

I can get a room rate of $249 during the week and $219 over the 4 weekend days (plus 12.5%) so roughly £170 per night for each room but its still more than we used to pay for the Ritz and its bugging me !

So, Can anyone come up with any ideas as to how to save money and get a better rate or using so other means to reduce the cost (I am a marriott rewards card holder so can put the hotel on there for a few points). Ive tried ringing them direct in america, I've tried emailing the hotel to negotiate a better rate and they won't budge. I can't get a better rate at booking.com or similar anywhere.

I like a bargain and I can't find one !

HELP !!!

by the way, the room rates I've quoted are for room packages which include Breakfast and Parking (retail package seems the best for us). It's only about $20 extra per night but every day, breakfast for 4 would be $110 and parking another $20 so its worth getting the packages.

  • Try the comparison sites like TriVaGo or holiday supermarket. Without knowing who makes up the party and how many nights, flexibility on dates etc its hard to give recommendations

Blimey ! If this comes off, I owe you one big time. Seems too good to be true surely ! It doesn't include breakfast or parking so that adds £50 per day but even so.

Will come back after investigating :j

Ha ha. Yes I know. We just love the whole Disney world thing and have been 11 times in 8 years :p

This clever-hotels.com seems good though at £75 quid a night. I can pay with Amex so that should cover me but just worried that I get to the hotel and they say "sorry sir, we have no booking for you".
I wonder if I can email the hotel and confirm they have us booked in. How does it work?

You know what they say. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is !

You can, just be aware that often the hotel won't have your name on file until a couple of days before you're due to arrive.

Expedia is showing as £123 at weekends and £142 in the week. Or they have option with breakfast and parking £135/154

    So trivago looks cheapest.

You could try using the Marriott 'Look No Further' best rate guarantee. Book the best cancellable rate with Marriott directly and then submit a claim citing clever-hotels.com as the cheaper competitor. If approved, they'll match the cheaper rate and then knock 25% off. If denied, just cancel without penalty and book through clever-hotels.com.

Click HERE to see loads of examples of successes (including some of my own) using this guarantee.

What dates did you put in for Expedia to get £135/154 ?

Use kayak or Trivago and find the best rate (you can also search for US companies by changing in Kayak from GB to US in top right hand corner)- book direct with Marriott direct on a refundable rate and then submit the Look No Further claim -they will match the cheaper rate (has to be for EXACTLY the same thing and then reduce it by a further 25%.II've got some fantastic rates both in the UK and the US this way.
