D-Link DI-524 Problems

I have a D-Link DI-524 cable wireless router connected to my Virginmedia modem, I haven't used the router i.e. it has been connected and I access the internet through the PC which is connected to it but I haven't used anything wirelessly for years, I tried to connect my Samsung Galaxy Ace to it but it didn't connect. I tried to log into the router but it doesn't accept any password I enter. I have tried re-setting the router but it still doesn't work. I want to connect my Wii and my son's Xbox 360 - can anyone help.:)

When I tried to log in after pressing the reset button for 10 seconds I logged in using the 'admin' and blank password but I tried to change them and now it won't recognise either.

When I pressed the reset button the lights on the front of the router didn't change from what they were doing previously - should they have stopped and restarted or something?

No I haven't. Do you just hold the reset button for 10 seconds or is there something else you have to do?

I am resetting the router and it is asking for a Preshare Key - what does this mean i.e. should it be a password type of thing that I choose or does it mean something else?

the PSK is the wifi security password you want to use.

When I try to log in - after entering the password - I get the following: Authenticating - Disconnecting - Disabled, secured with WPA/WPA2 PSK.

Maybe I should get a new router as this model was discontinued in 2006!

When I try to log in with my phone using the password on the log in box i.e. the one which has 'admin' in the username box.
