18185, 18866 and 1899 all 'engaged'?

I am getting an 'engaged' tone today from anything I dial with an 18185, 18866 or 1899 prefix via my Orchid - is it just my exchange or is everyone getting this problem

Who do you pay your line rental to?

  • We've got the same problem and have a BT line.
Just looked at their website...message dated today

''Due to a technical upgrade of the 18185 service you might experience some problems today when using 18185''

Thanks - Yes - Now I see that all 3 providers have the equivalent message on their websites
  • Hi

Is anybody having problems using the above telephone accounts. I keep getting a busy signal. Thought it was just me until a friend said the same. It was working OK last night.

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Phew. That's good though really - I thought BT had decided to block it!

BT is not allowed to do so. BT has to allow access (as it does to CPS providers).

  • Delighted to hear that it is just an upgrade problem for today. Looked at their internet site and can now see why I didn't notice the message earlier. Talk about small print for such an important message!!

seems that there are problems today, certainly with call1899 - as their web site says "Due to a technical upgrade of the 1899 service you might experience some problems today when using 1899

    We apologize for any inconvenience!"

Looking at 18185 and 18866 they are all showing the same upgrade message on their sites!!

By inconvenience I wonder if they mean a total inability to make a call all day!!

I thought my orchid had gone doolally!!
