Is it worth me putting in a claim for all 4 of us and will I need to find the flight numbers (can't find any paperwork relating to what it might have been).
Our family of 4 were delayed in Orlando for 10 hrs on the 23rd of October 2008 - I think!! I'm wondering if you knew the date of your delay, to ascertain if this was in fact the incoming plane!! I have my booking ref no and can find all my outbound details but have been unable to find inbound info. I can't even remember the reason they gave us for delay, so if anyone out there has any info would be g8 - not sure whether or not 2 pursue a claim???0 -
I've got a claim in with Virgin at the moment. It's a fairly solid case based on what I've seen but they're certainly dragging their heels.
Form was sent off in October, letter acknowledging was dated 14th Nov saying they would take 6-10 weeks to respond, this Wednesday will be 14 weeks since that date.
I've called customer service twice now, 3 weeks ago, and again last week when I hadn't heard anything. There is nothing that they can say to me about the claim, they just pass on a message to the "legal team" handling all the claims who appear to ignore the messages.
It seems that others have heard back fairly quickly when they've been rejected, but wondering if there is anyone else who's been waiting as long as we have?0 -
thanks lil me, which flight were you on and what are the details, if you can discuss them! I have just sent my forms back so I am now playing the waiting game.0

Hi, can anyone tell me how I go about claiming please. Do I need to print off a claim form, fill in a form on line or what?
Sorry, blonde moment!0 -

I was delayed on a flight from Gatwick to Las Vegas last August. Firstly we were told that the aeroplane was damaged on it's way back from Colombia or somewhere and we were going to be on another plane which was undergoing safety checks. Every time we looked at the departure board it was delayed a few more hours. Eventually we were told that although the plane was ok to take off, the flight crew were unable to work as they would be exceeding their duty hours. Surely this means we can claim? Instead of taking off at 11.35am on Thursday, we took off at 10.10am on Friday. We were put up in the Hilton hotel at Gatwick (where the fire alarm went off at around 11pm and we all had to stand outside in the rain for an hour while the fire crew checked it out)
I did complain and received 12500 Virgin miles each for myself and my husband, but I have written the template letter which was on this site and am still awaiting a reply (12 days ago so far)
Hopefully I will receive something but if I am told that I have received the air miles instead I will ask them to take them back and give me the money!
I will update this once I receive my reply.
Just heard back from Virgin today, I received a letter telling me that to claim compensation I have to complete the form they have hidden away on line and post it to them!! I will then have an acknowledgement within 2 weeks! Oh well, here we go again!0 -
If you want to jump through the hoops they place in front of you then please feel free to do so.
There's no legal requirement to do so.
Providing the template letter was accurate, you can now write to them and give them 14 days to settle or else you will take them to court.0 -
Amended my whole post as it was all wrong!
Have checked flightsat site and flight is listed as cancelled and we travelled back a whole day late from Mauritius in 2008.
Have got claim form off of the site, so am going to attempt a claim.

It was a flight back in 2008, Gatwick to Orlando. The plane was there, and we went through to the gate where we sat for 90 mins. They said the plane had a technical issue and after a while they ushered us back to the departures. Think we were something like 5-6 hours delayed in the end.0 -
I have now issued a claim against Virgin Atlantic using the money claims online service which is a government site. If you already have a Government Gateway id (eg if you do tax returns online or request pension forecasts) this is a really simple process. You just log on, fill in a form and pay the court fee (which is included in the costs claimed against Virgin) by debit or credit card. Papers are supposed to be served on the company (at their registered address in Crawley) via the service within 5 days and Virgin then get 14 days to pay up or contest the claim. I will keep you updated on how I get on as it might be the quickest way for other disgruntled passengers to get their compensation.0
