Hi all,
First of all sorry if this is a daft question:(:o!
I am having so many problems with my 6 year old PC that I am thinking of buying a new one, but to keep costs down I was wondering if it was possible just to buy a new tower thing and use the screen and keyboard I have??
Thank you

Should be no problem. If the old keyboard has a PS/2 connector (round) then you might find the new computer only supports a USB connection. However there are cheap adaptors available.0

Yes.
I don't think keyboard will major problem to you. New keyboard would probably cost you £10.0 -
Thanks for the link jaydeek:beer::beer:, is Acer a "good" make?:smileyheaMagenta0 -
You will find that many people sell PCs without a monitor but do usually include a cheap keyboard & mouse.
I have long been somewhat baffled why so many people buy laptops for general use in the house, when a desktop PC would meet their needs.
A desktop can easily be upgraded - more RAM, an additional HDD, better/bigger monitor (I have 2 on my PC), sexy mouse. If you buy a laptop any upgrade work is always more costly - IF it can de done at all. Failure of any part of a laptop means either a very costly repair or buying a complete new one. For example if my keyboard "dies" it is simple and cheap to fix.0 -

is Acer a "good" make?
Good as most others in the sector/price range. They do some high end stuff but the bulk is 'stack em high sell em cheap' everyday computing stuff. My Acer laptop is still going after 4 1/2 yrs (bit tatty in places - screen catch broken etc). They have average/reasonable reliability but not the best build quality (which if you're using a desktop is a bit diff to a laptop that will be carted around and opened and closed all the time.0 -
I'm still using a 6 year old Acer desktop still working fine only problem I've had is DVD drive packing up (generic DVD used in lots of desktops) I easily replaced myself.0

Assuming your issues are not hardware-related, why not just do a clean install on the existing machine? If it doesn't cure the problems, you've only lost a couple of hours of your time.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

backup data twice, check backups are readable, create windows discs, factory restore
