Iphone or something else?

I had an Iphone 4 which was on a 12 month contract tesco. It was a great deal unfortunately the phone was hopeless! It is the second Iphone i have had and it was forever dropping calls. I sold it a month ago and since then have just used a cheap old phone out of a draw.
The Iphone 5 seems to be a logial step but the new connector thingy does not fit any of my docking stations! I know Apple have to move products forward but this seems like a strange step especially not providing the converter which is £25!
So do i replace a poor phone with another iphone?? Or do I look at the competitors?

I was just sick of the same old interface in iPhones, so boring.
I'm looking at the all new Xperia Z, which comes out next month on CPW. It's getting amazing reviews.I am a moneysaver0 -

I'd look at all the available devices and then pick the best one. That could still be an iPhone 5. I'd warn you though that pretty much all modern smartphones are hopeless when it comes to signal. My iPhone 5, Nexus 4 and Lumia 710 are all completely outstripped by my mums knackered old Nokia 5230 Symbian phone when it comes to signal. Out of the three I own, the iPhone 5 is the best for signal.0 -
I must admit if I didn't have another year left on my contract I would go with pickoftheday and the xperia z.
But it depends on what other devices you have, if you have an ipad as well then the iphone does work so much better with it than anything else.“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -

If you've had so many problems with the iPhone in the past, it's probably not the most "logical step" to buy another one.
I'd definitely look into competitors products. Android provide a strong range of phones. Try going into your local branch and just playing around with a few things. See what you like the look/feel of and take it from there.0 -

Considering it is not launched to market until 28th February, I can't see where these amazing reviews are sourced?
I have only seen one review and that was for a beta model (well I hope so or we maybe dissapointed) but yes, I'm 1st in the queue for one sim free.0 -
Yikes! Looks like the Xperia Z is going to be £528 sim free .0

used to have an iphone which like someone else stated i got bored with and tbh i dont think they have moved on much from when i had one.
Then i tried Android which was good and imo better than iphone.
Now i recently got a lumia 920 and i would say its the best phone i have ever owned. I love the interface of windows phone 8 and the phone is great as well.
There not for everyone but definitely give the new range of windows phones a look.0 -
Iphone 5 £38 pm, Galaxy S3 £20.50 pm look no further.
Having said that Id have a nexus4 if you could remove the battery and use micro SD cards in it.0
