Very worried over single wage

I work 24.5 hours a week for £6.27 an hour. At the moment I get tax credits as my daughter is still at college (age 18). Next month she is moving out to live with a friend so I will be living alone. My wage wont come near to what I need for rent/council tax etc. Is there any extra help I will receive? Im so worried about how I will manage.

You will also lose some entitlement to HB etc as you don't have a dependant child.
Do you have savings to tide you over until you can increase your hours?
If not then head over to the Debt Free Boards for help with budgeting as if you were on JSA you'd get £71 a week so plenty manage on less than you do, it's cutting back on none essentials that will matter until you increase your hours.0 -
Is your 16 year old son still living at home and in education?0

You can model your future changes on the Turn2us online benefit calculator to identify the changes in income that comes from the loss of tax credits and child benefit when you daughter moves out. That said, you no longer have any household expenses associated with her so it might even out.
That calculator will identify any changes to council tax or housing benefit.
There is no other benefit that you are eligible for unless you work 30 hours per week if you are not a lone parent or 16 hours per week if you are lone parent (may qualify for working tax credits if your income is low enough).0 -

Now, with one month to go before your daughter moves out, you realise you can't manage.
You will have to increase your working hours, probably to double the hours your doing now and could you take in a lodger for the room which your daughter used to sleep in?
Thanks for such a wonderful comment. It really helped me on my way!
I also wanted to let you know that you appear to have confused me with someone you have known for the past 18 years and who has been 'working part time in an easy job and allowing tax credits to pick up the slack.' Infact I have been working at my current job for just 18 months. Before that I was a primary school teacher for 7 and a half years working 32 hours a week. Sadly being diagnosed with bowel cancer forced me to leave that job and recover for a further year. I didnt really intend to go into all the gory details on here but felt I have had to justify myself. I hope my recovery period sounds an acceptable amount of time to you.
I thought this forum was a place for people to help each other out - not just to lurk here waiting to pounce on people down on their luck. I'm really quite cross about people who do this. Its very unattractive but something you appear fond of doing.
By the way my boss has given me an extra 6 hours a week today so you can sleep easy tonight

Very helpful. Thanks. You should really think about how racist several members of the forum are suspecting you of being. Not good.February wins - Nina Ricci fragrance, 'I Can't Sing' musical tickets for 2, Debenhams Valentines bouquet, Dr Who goody bag0 -

How do you come to that conclusion?
As for me being racist if people wish to believe that hen so be it, I will sleep really easy tonight. My girlfriend may disagree with you though.0 -
