Trying to do the best for 'dumb' animals is so hard at times. I recall once we stumbled across a sheep that had fallen into a reservoir. the wind and current had taken it most the way across but it was flagging badly and rather than being flat in the water it was vertical with just its head out the water.

We decided the only thing to do was get some large boulders and throw them in at such a place that the extending swell would help push it to the side more quickly. It worked and it started drifting in more quickly but how gutted was I when it lost its struggle no more than 7 or 8 feet from the edge. I did manage to get it out but it had sadly died. Totally ruined a good day as all we could think about for the rest of the day was this poor sheep.
