Emily_Rachel wrote: »Hello Truly Madly, Your cake looks amazing! I used to make almost the same recipe, but now do it with a whole pack of mixed fruit, about half a pint of cold tea but NO SUGAR. I add the egg in the morning with the SR flour and a half teaspoon of baking powder and cook in a ring mould for about 40 minutes at 150 degrees. Shorter cooking time in a ring mould, so nice and moist. Some chopped crystallised ginger is good in it too. I found cutting out the sugar was fine as long as you don't have a sweet tooth, and the cake tastes great for breakfast spread with a little butter. If you find it isn't sweet enough you can always do what the Dutch do and sprinkle a little icing sugar onto the buttered slice at the table. Well you can't have a completely virtuous recipe!
Hmm. I think I need to go and make a big pot of earl grey tea and find my fruit.......
Hi Emily,
Thank you for this. I make one of these every week. DH can't eat enough of it but will try cutting down on the sugar. Next week I'll cut it down by a couple of ounces and see what it tastes like and see how far I can go down each week.
I add nuts sometimes, cherries and mixed peel for variety:)To do is to be. Rousseau

the £5 M&S vouchers were available instore before xmas. Some stores might still have them, but I haven't seen them anywhere. I have a spare set you can have
Thank you very much for the offer, that is very kind. I think the dine in deal is only on until tomorrow though, unless anyone knows otherwise. I was hoping to find a nice overpriced chicken and get a bit off the shopping like (sorry can't remember who) someone did the other day. As they said they only paid £13 for all their shopping and that sounded good to me.
Now back off I go to catch up x0 -
