Thats the problem. There is no feelgood factor in this heavy discounting process any more. Peeps expect it as a given so its not a bonus. They even expect it when there is no discount to give. When it gets to the 70% discount level it looks what it is - totally and utterly absurd. This business/marketing model has completely lost its currency. The cashback model is equally stupid.

It may be more important for you to feel that you getting a 'discount' however real that discount may or may not be. There is more than one way to skin a cat you know.
