My car hit by ambulance

My car was hit by ambulance in front of my flat and left me their policy details. My car was taken to the garage for repair but they wont do any repair because its more than the car is worth. I just want my car back as it was before the accident. What are my rights and what can i do next? Thanks

It's effectively up to the insurers. If they deem the repair costs to be prohibitive then they can opt to write-off the vehicle. It then comes down to agreeing the write-off value - don't accept their first offer.0

You haven't exactly given us a great deal of detail but can we assume you've been claiming of their insurance and they've now come back ready to write-off your car?0

Hi thanks for your replys. Yes they want to write off my car and i would only get what they think its worth. But thats not good for me because i will be without a car and the money cant get me a car like i had. If this didnt happen i would still drive my car for a good few years. I only want the car as it was before the accident. Its the person who hit my car fault so why should i go through all this now?0

Find several like-for-like cars and use these to come up with an appropriate figure to take to them to negotiate their price for a write-off.0

You have been given the answer above.
Please let this not be another 'tell me what I want to hear' thread.0 -
They are normally underwritten as opposed to insured.
Insurance is mainly a private car thing, large organisations can underwrite themselves.
You need to establish if they have insurance or are underwritten themselves by bond.
Any advice depends on how they operate.Be happy...;)0 -
I'm curious to know why & how the ambulance hit your car?just in case you need to know:

They are only obliged to give you the fair market value for your car. In the meantime do you have a loan car? Until the claim is settled you would be entitled for fair consequential losses such as a hire car of the same spec.0

Yes it's annoying, but accidents happen. That is life!
All you can do it accept their offer or ask for more. You then can purchase your old car from the scrap yard and repair it yourself, but it's probably not worth it.
