    I used to work in a call centre for a large catalogue company and they decided to suddenly close the accounts of customers that had returned a significant proportion of their items.

    They didn't care how much of a big spender the person was. People used to regularly buy an item of clothing in every colour available and three different sizes just to try them on at home. Returns cost the company money.

    Ok OP I to have to ask but what reply/help do you want ?

    Ill give you my view, yes you may have spent 1765£ with them but that doesn't mean to say you get put into a special pot where you cant get your account closed. Amazon are a business like any other. If you want to inspect the goods then buy from a physical store.

    Give us an example of an item you returned and the reason for it.

    49% returns rate.

    Doesn't matter how much you spend, no company is going to put up with that sort of shopping patten.

    Dear god, I didn't spot that in the op's post at first, only in your reply.

    I'm amazed Amazon didn't take action much earlier, in many companies I suspect the alarm bells in the accounts/returns departments would start ringing at 10-25%.

    As pretty much every says, Amazon (like any retailer) have the right to decide who they do business with, and if a customer is returning nearly half their total orders by value over any prolonged period of time, most retailers will take action.

    By comparison out of something like 300+ orders (not items, probably 600-800 items), I think I've returned maybe a dozen or so at most - almost all due to faults (the last one was a DVD set where the publisher had made an authoring error missing content).

    The DSR's are great if an item is not as described, but some people do take advantage of it, sometimes to extremes.

    It's good to see Amazon have started warning people that they are considering closing their account and why. I have seen a good few threads where they have just closed the account with no notice and refuse any further explanation.

    Not only peanuts, but the losses from dealing with the returns probably outweight the profits on sales of 4-5x that (assuming Amazon are eating the cost of postage, and where needed either repackaging, or selling on as used/seconds).

    Seen a few posts claiming this - I've returned 2 items in many years, one was wrong size and one faulty.
    Live in fear on amazon closing my account down and great to hear they *might* now be giving warnings before dropping the banhammer.

    Both of my relatively small returns must have caused them a fair loss (chunky kicker boots and a cheapo phone charger. Full refund with no questions asked and they also pay 2 way postage on both items + restock etc.)

    I've never considered my self a "big spender" on amazon but my total must easily be in the thousands by now.

    The way I read it is that there is a larger than average number of lost items going to that account, in other words they are refunding money on items that they are not getting back. I am surprised they didn't just close your account.
