NHS Dental fine of £350 but never received letters

-2006 moved out of old address told dental practice over phone new address.

-I was made redundant in May 2012, at the time as I had some free time on my hands I went to the dentist and got a clean up. I had mentioned to the dentist that I grind my teeth so he took moulds of my teeth and told me to come back Wednesday week after to pick up my retainer.

Started my new job on the Monday, went to pick up retainers on Wednesday. I explained that I was on benefits at the time the work was done and I was asked to signed a benefit form.

fast forward 8 months, NHS decided that I still needed to pay for the treatment which was £80. But I was not receiving the letters as the practise did not update my address. They ended up adding £350 in fine and I missed the final notice period and apparently they were in the process of issuing a CCJ!

I called them up last month and out of fear I paid the total amount as I am going through a mortgage process. I was told the CCJ has been cancelled and when I questioned the issue of the address I was told nothing could be done.

Does anyone have any advice on what my options are if I want to get back some of this money? Is there someone I can speak to or any I can do?
